SCAM ALERT: Please share so people are aware!

Let's Roll Hawaii Kokea was called today by toll free number 1-866-978-5981 claiming they were Hawaiian Electric Company. They said that the electric bill was 2 months past due and that a technician was coming by to shut the electric off unless we went to a payment center and paid the past due amount which they claimed was over $500.

Even though we keep records that we had paid the bill and told them that we hadn't received a past due notice; they insisted that the bill hadn't been paid and our electric would be shut off within the hour if we didn't pay.

We did not make the payment and instead called Hawaiian Electric who said that our bill was up to date and we were targeted by scammers.

If anyone ever calls you to "collect" on past due bills that you have a record of paying, ask for their extension number and tell them you'll call them back. Then call the corporation they are claiming to be from at the company's publicly listed customer service line.
