***New Spirit Release!***

Please join us as we celebrate the latest release in our expanding family of fruit eaux de vie! We were thrilled to finally get our hands on some English Morello Cherries from our friends at Fix Brothers Farm in Hudson. English Morellos are a late-ripening, sour cherry originating in France. They are prized for their tart flavor, which makes them ideal for use in cooking and baking, and are perfect for liquers and brandies.

We fermented 5,000 pounds of cherries last summer and the distillation yielded a mere 95 liters of alcohol which translates into 518 half bottles, and close to 10 pounds of cherries in each one. Come taste the essence of this tantalizing fruit and grab one of these rare bottles before they’re all scooped up.

Cherry Fest will be held at the farm on Sunday, July 27th (12-3pm). As with all of our release parties, we will be joined by other farmers and makers in a collaborative event that highlights the abundance of this valley! Friends from Fix Farm, Rose Hill Ferments, Little Rye Bakehouse, Potters Table Bakery, Klocke Estate, and LG Studio Pottery will be participating in this summer fest, sharing the fruits of their labor with you. Hope you can make it!

We will have fresh chicken next week at the farm store Thurs-Sun! We are only offering one batch of our pasture raised birds this year so be sure to grab a few. We are not joking or bragging when we say friends and chefs tell us these are the best chickens they’ve ever had.

What makes a Branchwater bird?

We start with a great breed: Freedom Rangers from Lancaster County, PA. They are a slower growing breed than commercial chickens and the resulting meat is succulent, with more yellow omega-3 fat and less saturated fat than faster-growing breeds. They are also a joy to work with, and they add a welcome splash of color and valuable fertilizer to our green pastures as they grow.

All of our birds are raised on our organic pastures, and free range from the moment they leave the brooder. They are provided fresh, clean water, certified organic feed from , sunlight and lots of TLC as well as protection from the things that go boo in the night by our amazing Maremma boy, Dante!

Our favorite way to enjoy a Branchwater chicken is whole roasted (recipe in our January newsletter, “Winter Welcome” which is saved on our website under the blog tab), but we’d love to hear your favorite preparations. And always, always, make stock from the carcass, which you can freeze and use when making soups and risottos or when nursing a cold.

Time for a Branchwater Provisions plug!

Did you know that our farm store and tasting room are open Thursday- Sunday 12-5?

We’ve been hard at work building up our offerings so that we can be your one-stop shop for dinner tonight or a thoughtful gift for someone special. We love when you stop in just to say hi and grab some eggs, or when you bring your out of town friends and family here to do an impromptu tasting or to show off the abundance of local offerings from this amazing part of the world.

Farms and small businesses are the backbone of our communities. And we are so grateful to be a part of ours.

Scroll through for some highlights of what you might find in our fridge, freezer or shelves today! Happy Summer and hope to see you soon!

People swear by our bees’ honey! With a higher sugar content, it is dense and quick to crystallize. Great for spreading on toast. We just made a batch of honey syrup for a vermouth spritz we’ll be featuring at our kickoff Fridays at the Farm tomorrow. Perfect way to get a buzz from our bees!

The rumors are true — we made Vermouth this year — two of them in fact! We started with a base of New York State Vidal Blanc, which we fortified with our own spirits before adding a blend of bitters, herbs and citrus for the Dry Vermouth. We added spices and a little extra charm to the Dry to make the Sweet.

We will be hosting a Branchwater Dry Vermouth release party on Saturday, April 26th (3-5pm), where Vermouth spritzes and Branch-tinis will be available for purchase. Our Sweet Vermouth will be released later this year.

Like the label? The crest is a family seal from Kevin’s great great grandfather, Ernst Zündt (b. 1819 in Württemberg). We wanted to create something a little different for the vermouths, while incorporating family history. We scanned a photo of the heraldic crest which hangs in our home and our friend Hayley (who does all of our graphics) came up with this design.

We can’t wait to share our latest release with you. Hope to see you on the 26th!

We are back! Thanks to everyone who stopped by the farm store over the weekend. It was nice to come out of our winter hibernation and see so many familiar faces and to meet some new neighbors too. We especially love when conversations strike up between our guests. It’s one of the things we love most about our space. We want it to be an inviting place for real people to connect in real time. We all need more of that.

Farm store and tasting room are open through December. Hours are Thurs-Sun 12-5. We will be hosting Fridays at the Farm on the last Friday of the month May-Oct and we’ll be rolling out some other fun things for fun seekers. Check our stories and our website for updates. And if you haven’t subscribed to our monthly (only!) newsletter, what are you waiting for?

Thank you for following, for supporting and for connecting.

2023 Bartlett Pear is bottled and out in the world! 5 tons of gorgeous fruit from our friends yielded a mere 700 bottles (375ml).

A note on labels-what we previously bottled as Pear Brandy is now Bartlett Pear. Why? Because we also make a Bosc Pear Brandy. Expanding the fruit franchise one species at a time! Collect all flavors!

The Bartlett is unmistakably pear. Super juicy, bordering on tropical flavors. The Bosc has an earthier, darker more subtle profile.

No matter how many times we tried to talk ourselves out of it, we finally went and did it! Yesterday we welcomed a small flock of fine fleece Shetland sheep from our neighbors at to Branchwater.

On a farm, many of the decisions you make are based on what is practical but sometimes you have to go with your gut and satisfy the need to nurture your spirit as well.

We are looking forward to learning and growing with the latest addition to our ark! Welcome Gracie, Havana, Dandelion, Pipkin and Fauvio to the Branchwater flock!

Just popping in to say hello. We have been taking the time we need to hunker down, refocus our energy and prioritize and plan for the year ahead. We’ve been making wintry meals and curling up and watching movies at night. We’ve been leaning into slowing down a little before the manic season of Spring arrives. Isn’t that what winter asks us to do? Hope you are finding time for some cozy magic, some introspection, and feeling the feelings. Talk soon!

Fresh Chicken will be available next week at the farm store (Thurs-Sun). This will be it for the year, so if you’re a fan of our birds this is your chance to stock up. Our chickens spend their days outside, on grass, with access to fresh water and certified organic feed. We’re proud to offer these birds as a local alternative to those of you who eat meat and value knowing the source of it.
