The U.P. Superior Snowmobile Club annual meeting is this Wednesday at 5:30 pm at the groomer barn here in Twin Lakes! This is a very important meeting for the club as it is the one where trustees and officers are elected, and our season is planned out- beginning with our brushing & signing weekend the 3rd weekend of September. Hope to see you there!

Lots going on around us today- Porcupine Music Festival… Houghton County Fair… get out and enjoy a beautiful day!!!

Tucked in the woods of Stanton Township, west of Houghton, stands one of the strangest landmarks in the Copper Country. 🏚️ The Redridge Steel Dam went up in 1901, one of only a handful of steel dams ever built in the whole country, holding back the Salmon Trout River to feed the thirsty Atlantic and Baltic stamp mills. ⚙️

Around it grew the little mill town of Redridge, homes and families and the steady pound of the stamps crushing rock into copper. When the mills went quiet, so did the town. The people drifted off to other work, the houses came down or fell in, and the woods moved back. 🌲

The great steel wall is still there though, seventy four feet tall and a thousand feet across, standing in the quiet where a whole town used to be.
