The Arthur Avenue Podcast takes a deep dive into Ardbeg Smokiverse, one of the most anticipated limited-edition Islay single malt Scotch whiskies. We break down what makes Smokiverse unique, explore its bold smoky character, discuss how it compares to other Ardbeg releases, and decide whether it’s worth adding to your collection. I want to know what's your favorite Ardbeg release?

Whether you’re a longtime peat lover or just getting into Islay Scotch, this episode covers the flavor profile, production, value, and everything you need to know before buying a bottle.

Blade and Bow is a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey produced by Diageo at the historic Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Louisville. Bottled at 91 proof (45.5% ABV), it costs around $50–$60 and features notes of dried apricot, ripe pear, and roasted grain, with a smooth, fruit-forward finish. The Solera Process - Rather than a standard single-barrel or batch release, Blade and Bow is crafted using a Solera system—a mingling process where older whiskies are continuously blended with younger ones. This means every bottle contains some of the original Stitzel-Weller distillate, including some of the very last whiskey produced there before the distillery temporarily closed in 1992. The Five Keys - The name Blade and Bow refers to the two physical parts of a skeleton key (the blade shaft and the ornate bow). This is a tribute to the five skeleton keys that used to hang on the doors of the Stitzel-Weller Distillery, which represented the five steps of the bourbon-making process. Grains, Yeast, Fermentation, Distillation, Aging. Today, each bottle of Blade and Bow is adorned with a collectible metal key attached to its neck.

Ardbeg Anamorphic is an experimental cask, highly limited, non-chill-filtered single malt Scotch whisky released by the Ardbeg Distillery exclusively for its Committee members. Bottled at 48.2% ABV, it gets its unique flavor profile—described as morphing between sweet, smoky, herbal, and spicy—by utilizing an experimental cask-charring technique. To create the Anamorphic expression, Ardbeg turned to a unique “high mocha” cask treatment: Scored Cask Heads: The barrel heads were removed from the ex-bourbon casks and deeply scored to expose a much greater surface area of the wood. Infrared Toasting: The barrel heads underwent a precise, intense infrared toasting process that penetrates deep into the wood and creates a wider layer of caramelized wood sugars. Aggressive Charring: Finally, the inside of the barrels were exposed to open flames to char them aggressively before being filled with the peated Ardbeg spirit. This method was designed to temper Ardbeg’s signature briny and salty overtones while amplifying hidden dark chocolate, espresso, and mocha flavors.

Was it the egg or the Zabaglione that came first. Traditionally you should mix this with your coffee, ice cream or by itself, slightly chilled as a dessert.
