We donated 10% of sales from our last barrel of Rare Character, raising $1,850 for the PBA Children and Widows Fund.

That happened because of you—our customers, who appreciate great wh***ey and showed up for a great cause: supporting the families of fallen NYPD officers.

This was our first barrel supporting a charity, and it won’t be our last. Going forward, every Arthur Cantina store-exclusive barrel pick will be tied to a charity or cause. We’re a small shop, but together we can make a difference.

And just like that, it is autumn and one of our most reliable and seasoned speakers, Mr. Mike Virgintino is on tap for October. You may be familiar with his work on Freedomland U.S.A. - The World's Largest Entertainment Center which he has given many varying and nuanced lectures about the Bronx amusement park. This month when many historic battles had taken place in regards to the American Revolution such as Pell’s Point, Westchester Creek and the skirmish on Eastchester Road in Morris Park, he will however, take a look at Revolutionary Westchester. The subtitle is History Hidden In Plain Sight. Mike will reveal many of the hidden sites, monuments and plaques commemorating the American Revolution from the northern part of the county to the southern portion that became The Bronx. We will travel from North Salem to the campus of Fordham University, moving east to west and back again as we journey south. We will be virtually visiting sites in Peekskill, White Plains, Yonkers, Mount Vernon, Kingsbridge and elsewhere.
Mike is kind enough to bring some Revolutionary War items to be raffled off, such as books and magazines. Additionally, we will be sponsored this month by Arthur Cantina W**e & Liquor from 2380 Arthur Avenue, who will be raffling off some items as well.
Our 208th meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 21st at 7:30 pm in the lower level of St. Clare of Assisi Church, located at 1027 Rhinelander Avenue. There is ample parking just north of the entrance on Paulding Avenue. As in the past, all of our meetings are free and open to the public and of course bring a friend. Blade and Bow is a Kentucky straight bourbon wh***ey produced by Diageo at the historic Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Louisville. Bottled at 91 proof (45.5% ABV), it costs around $50–$60 and features notes of dried apricot, ripe pear, and roasted grain, with a smooth, fruit-forward finish. Ardbeg Anamorphic is an experimental cask, highly limited, non-chill-filtered single malt Scotch wh**ky released by the Ardbeg Distillery exclusively for its Committee members. Bottled at 48.2% ABV, it gets its unique flavor profile—described as morphing between sweet, smoky, herbal, and spicy—by utilizing an experimental cask-charring technique.To create the Anamorphic expression, Ardbeg turned to a unique “high mocha” cask treatment: Scored Cask Heads: The barrel heads were removed from the ex-bourbon casks and deeply scored to expose a much greater surface area of the wood. Infrared Toasting: The barrel heads underwent a precise, intense infrared toasting process that penetrates deep into the wood and creates a wider layer of caramelized wood sugars. Aggressive Charring: Finally, the inside of the barrels were exposed to open flames to char them aggressively before being filled with the peated Ardbeg spirit. This method was designed to temper Ardbeg’s signature briny and salty overtones while amplifying hidden dark chocolate, espresso, and mocha flavors.
