A lot of what makes bourbon special starts with the barrel itself🔥🪵
Here’s a behind the scenes look at the barrel charring process at Old Forester!
Before bourbon ever enters the barrel, the inside of the oak is exposed to an intense, controlled flame. This creates a layer of char that helps filter the wh***ey as it ages, while the heat transforms compounds in the wood that contribute to those familiar notes of caramel, vanilla, and spice.
The char level also plays a role in how the bourbon develops over time, influencing its flavor, color, and overall profile.
