Today’s the day we’ve been dreading.

After years of talk and construction, today marks the moment we’ve officially been bypassed off of US Highway 58.

For generations, traffic passed right by our door — bringing in friendly faces, new customers, and folks just stopping in to stretch their legs or grab a bite to eat. That highway has been a lifeline for small, family-run businesses like ours.

We knew this day was coming, but it still hits hard to see the detour signs go up and the barrels go down.

We’re not going anywhere. Howell’s Grocery & Restaurant is still here, still cooking, and still proudly serving our community like we have for over 100 years. But we’d be lying if we said today didn’t come with a lump in our throat.

If you’re reading this and you’ve ever stopped by — whether you’re local or just passing through — we hope you’ll keep us in mind. We’d love to see you again.
