This month, Dave’s sipping on cougar juice - Pinot Grigio! If we’ve being honest, a lot of mass-market Pinot Grigio is boring at best, downright awful at worst. BUT, in the right hands, Pinot Grigio makes one of the most beautifully textured white wines on the planet, and Zemmer’s bottling here is a great example of subverting the stereotype of bland PG 😏

This is lush and rich, with notes of apple, Bartlett pear, cream, honey, ginger, peach, waxy lemon, yellow plum, almond, and baking spice and clean, river-rock minerality 🍎🍐🍑

White Burgundy drinkers - take note! This could easily go toe-to-toe with Beaune’s best 👀

Every day is World Lambrusco Day here, but the official celebration is coming up on June 21. If you aren’t already sipping on this delightful Italian sparkler...get hip 🇮🇹

Lambrusco comes from Emilia-Romana in central Italy, and is normally a red sparkling wine (even though rose and the even rarer Lambrusco Bianco do exist). Traditionally, Lambrusco is off-dry, but many producers are making fully dry expressions 🍾

Here at the shop, Carafoli is our go-to producer, both for their high quality and approachable price point. We carry 2 traditional red Lambrusco, one off-dry and one dry, and 1 dry rose style which is actually the best seller 🏆

These are wonderfully lively wines with abundant fruit aromas and lovely spicy complexity, and are awesome pairings for charcuterie boards and pizza nights 🧀🍕

This month, Kellyn is going big, with a benchmark bottling “made by” one of Burgundy’s most hallowed estates, Coche-Dury, for the Hospices de Beaune ⛪️

Hospices de Beaune is a charitable organization in Burgundy that oversees several healthcare facilities. The organization also owns some of the best vineyard plots in all of Burgundy, and every year makes wine from these grapes and auctions off the juice, with the funds from the auction going to fund their operations 💰

In tradition, the barrels full of fresh juice are passed off to some of the most prestigious wine estates in the region to “raise” the wine and guide it through the elevage and aging process before bottling 🪵

This 100% Pinot Noir bottling comes from the commune of Pommard, specifically the premier cru plot of Epenots, already pretty strong credentials, but where things get crazy is who “raised” the wine: Coche-Dury 🏰

Coche-Dury is one of the most legendary estates in Burgundy, making wines most collectors wish they could get a hold of. This is a big, sturdy style of Pinot, with notes of black cherry, black raspberry, huckleberry, damp earth, blonde to***co, Madagascar vanilla, and Asian spice, with a rich texture and some lovely earthy tannin begging for some duck 🦆

Nick is pouring something special this month, an under-the-radar non-dosage sparkler from Thierry Germain 🇫🇷

This is mostly Chenin Blanc, with a few other grapes blended in, from Saumur, in the Loire Valley of France. This biodynamic banger is made in the method traditionelle and rests on the lees for 9 months before bottling 🍇

This is beautifully textured, with both zippy acidity and a chewy, waxy, rich palate. Notes of golden apples, chamomile, honey, and buttered brioche, with a finesse uncommon for the price point. Unbelievable value ⭐

You’d think International Cognac Day would be in the winter time but hey, we don’t make the rules! I will say, a stiff pour of Cognac to wash down a long, leisurely summer dinner doesn’t sound too bad, and we’ve got some picks for you 🥃

If you’re just getting into Cognac and want a nice introduction that won’t break the bank, try Tesseron’s VS. Tesseron is one of the more prestigious, higher-end houses, and the VS is their entry-level offering of younger brandies. Notes of poached pear, caramel, orange peel and spice 🍐

For a step up, look to Kelt’s Blender’s Expedition Cask Strength. This comes from the highly regarded Cognac Grande Champagne sub-region (no relation to the bubbly), and is bottled over-proof for a concentrated, strong sip that should appease bourbon and cognac drinkers alike with notes of candied walnut, orchard fruits, white pepper, and wildflower honey 🍯

Finally, if you’re swinging for the fences, nothing else will do besides Louis XIII. This is the most prestigious Cognac on the planet, bar none. Made by Remy Martin, this uses a blend of brandies ranging from 40-100 years old - so old, the people who distill these brandies will ultimately never be able to taste the finished product. Louis XIII is known for its unrivaled complexity, with notes of myrrh, plum, honeysuckle, cigar box, molasses, Valencia orange, concentrated grape, brown sugar, clove, and leather. We have the full size bottle, and yes it costs about as much as a small boat, but we also have a few 50ml mini bottles left in stock - perfect for celebrating a special moment without refinancing your house 👑
