So many times we hear people say, "I've been coming here since I was a kid and can't wait to share the area with my kids". For that to happen, our lakes and woods need your help. We have local volunteers who spend their summers trying to keep our lakes healthy. Please respect their efforts and do your part by cooperating with our boat landing monitors and by steering clear of known areas of invasive weeds. (And, if you'd really like to help out, we're always looking for volunteers!)

There's not much we can add to what The Cabin Store has said. Please be respectful. If you are caught causing damage to town property, you can be charged for 3 times the cost of the repairs (this includes hourly fees for equipment and road crew wages) on top of any fines you may receive. The town could also decide to close roads to ATV traffic, which would effectively close trails by making them inaccessible. As business owners, as town board members and as people who like to ride, we would absolutely hate to see a few people ruin it for everyone else, but unfortunately, the selfish actions of a few often have that effect. Be respectful. Be kind. Have fun.

ATV trails in Barnes are shut down until noon on Friday. Hopefully, we get the rain forecasted for later in the week, but if we don't, please check before riding.

The Wisconsin DNR, in conjunction with the National Weather Service, has issued a Red Flag Warning for today, Sunday, May 11, 2025 from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. for the following counties in northern Wisconsin:

Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marinette, Oneida, Polk, Price, Rusk, Sawyer, St. Croix, Vilas and Washburn counties.

A Red Flag Warning is issued when a variety of weather factors come together to create especially dangerous wildland fire conditions. Hot temperatures, very low humidity, gusty winds and exceptionally dry fuels from ongoing lack of precipitation are anticipated and can result in catastrophic fires.

The DNR will prohibit burning with all DNR-issued burn permits where the DNR has burn restriction authority. The DNR is asking the public to be especially careful with any activities that could potentially lead to a wildland fire and check any fires from recent days to make sure they have been properly extinguished.

Fire control officials will be on high alert across the entire state, pre-positioning equipment for rapid response and checking any fires from previous days. The DNR anticipates continued dry, elevated fire conditions again on Monday with a chance of some moderating conditions later in the week.
