Celebrate Cinco de Mayo by tasting wines from Mexico! Over the years the wines from Mexico have been getting better and better. I have come across several Mexican wines that I know you will enjoy very much.

One of the most popular wine destinations in Mexico is just a four hour drive from Sierra Madre. The Valle de Guadalupe is a wine region in Baja California just north of Ensenada. The culinary scene and lodging are world class and the wines are improving leaps and bounds. I will be featuring three wines from the Valle de Guadalupe, and one wine from Querétaro - a state in Central Mexico.

Instead of a charcuterie board, you can order Mexican appetizers - chips, salsa, guacamole, and Chicharrones - to go along with the wines!

Loire Valley vs West Coast

I f@&% up this week. I thought I had a Chenin Blanc from France in the shop. Turns out it is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay from the Loire Valley. So, instead of having a showdown of Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc from France and the West Coast (Oregon and California), the theme has changed to Loire Valley vs West Coast!

Don’t get your panties in a bunch though. This Sauvignon Blanc/Chardonnay blend is fantastic. It’s gotta be since it’s a Kermit Lynch Selection and you know how I feel about my man Kermit. Every wine that he imports is outta this world. Who you rooting for? Team Loire or Team West Coast? All four wines are either Certified Sustainable or Organic, and all four wines are delicious.Vive la France! Viva los Doyers! Errrr Viva la West Coast!

Paso Robles Showdown: McPrice Myers vs Austin Hope

Are you on Team Priceless or Team Hopeless?

I am featuring all California wines - specifically, wines from Paso Robles. We’ll do the tasting blind so that you won’t be influenced by the winery. It will be interesting to see which winery is preferred. Austin Hope produces nearly 500,000 cases of wine annually, while McPrice Myers produces a fraction of that. Austin Hope is available at BevMo, Target, and Walmart, while McPrice Myers is at more select wine shops. Austin Hope tends to be more ripe fruit, jammy, and higher alcohol. McPrice Myers produces more balanced and refined wines with less alcohol. Two different wineries, two different styles. Which will you choose?

Who Does It Better? Blind Tasting!

Get your nose, tongue, and mouth ready for a blind tasting this week! You will be tasting four wines blindly as you try to guess the varietal and the country, and then you decide which country did it better! I might have a Cabernet Sauvignon from California pitted against a Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile. Will you be able to guess the varietal and the country? We'll find out this Thursday and Friday.
