We are proud to host the amazing work of photographer Whitney Tressel from June through July!

Whitney is a photographer, producer, and photo editor for various publications and brands including National Geographic, Google, The Wall Street Journal, Samsung,
Budget Travel, Rolling Stone, and Esquire. After shaping her photography career in New York City, she took to the road for a few years and recently chose Santa Fe as her next home.

A statement from the artist:
America Still is just a glimpse into years of photographic work as a road traveler and editorial photographer. Whether observing modern civilization or exploring natural and sacred lands, the contemplative compositions in America Still touch on multiple regions of the continent and exude a certain timelessness. My intention to carefully gather color, light, and sense of a place into single, unhurried frames results in photographs that convey both quietude and curiosity. These America Still images offer layers to viewers, considering both nature and colonization, two aspects still true of America, both subtly and overtly. The images in this collection were captured from 2011–2019, many of them while I lived full-time on the road, in a camper by myself. Writer and activist Gloria Steinem speaks of how the road has long been a male province––a concept amplified by male representation in road trip movies, books, music, and imagery. Moved by Steinem, I too
believe the road is instead for everyone and seek to interrupt the given narrative by participating as a solo-traveling woman myself––sharing others’ stories and my own through photography, conversation, and activism.
