A tiny island. A handful of vines. One night in SF, Saturday, April 25th, 5-7pm.

We are thrilled and honored to host Francesco Carfagna, the man behind the truly singular Altura estate and Gambero Rosso’s 2026 Winemaker of the Year, for a special winemaker tasting.

Perched on a hill beneath the Castle of Giglio, the Carfagna family live in a converted windmill with expansive views of the Mediterranean, Elba, Corsica, and the Tuscan mainland. Their vines, practically the last remaining on an island that was once renowned for its wines, struggle out of the steep, sun baked, rocky slopes that lead down to the sea. Their wines are as breathtaking as the views, and express island sunshine, sea breeze, and living soil — a rare glimpse into Giglio’s heritage and Francesco’s poetic mindset. We will taste the current releases of their skin-macerated Ansonaco, Rossetto Sangiovese, and Rosso Saverio, a heady mix of native Tuscan grapes, as well as back vintages of the Ansonaco and Saverio. Snacks will be served, too.

We’ll gather together in the beautiful Belsö garden, just across the street from the shop — an intimate, guided evening with Francesco, with time to ask questions, hear his stories, and experience these very special wines up close.

At the risk of fan-girling a little too hard, we can’t overemphasize how truly unlike anything else these wines are, and how excited we are to share this opportunity with you. Space is limited and tickets are required; more details and tickets via the link in bio!

Mighty Cirò takes center stage! Vigneto Vumbaca tasting tonight! 🍇🍇🍇

Christian Vumbaca left his career as lawyer in Rome to return home and follow his dream of becoming a winemaker –– and he’s now at the forefront of the Cirò revolution, organically tending six hectares of sandy- and clayey-calcareous soil, cultivating old-vine Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco grapes, for the most part still planted with the traditional ‘alberello’ system. Christian’s approach to winemaking is minimalistic and production is tiny, but his wines speak of his own personality: jovial, honest, and direct.

Friday Night Tasting with Markus Prackwieser 🏔️🏔️🏔️

Located on the dramatic, steep slopes of the Valle Isarco in Alto Adige, Gumphof is a family estate dating back to 1546. Since 2000, Markus has been at the helm, carefully crafting his mountain wines, grown at altitudes up to 1,800 feet. His philosophy centers on “innate vitality”— creating authentic, precise wines that reflect the rugged beauty of his five-hectare estate. Markus’ passion and good nature is infectious and we’re excited to kick off the weekend with him!

Join us this weekend for a very special Sunday tasting with winemaker Nicolò Grippaldi! 🌞🌞🌞
Nicolò Grippaldi is a pretty philosophical guy, both in the technical and literal senses. Having studied philosophy at university in Florence, a chance meeting with the owners of a Chianti cantina, Castello dei Rampolla in Panzano, saw Nicolò fall headlong into the world of wine, eventually returning to his homeland in the province of Enna, a relatively remote corner of central Sicily. With the entirety of the region’s vineyards decimated by the scourge of phylloxera throughout the tail of the 19th century, Nicolò truly found himself at square one, planting a minuscule 2.60 hectare vineyard of his own (the only vineyard in the region) in the spring of 2015 – half of it to Nero d’Avola, the remaining half to Nerello Mascalese. A certified trailblazer in the region – and not even 40 years old – Nicolò adheres strictly to biodynamic principles in his farming, crafting his own biodynamic preparations and guiding all vineyard and cellar work via the cycles of the moon. His wines are always exceptionally layered, reflecting their Sicilian terroir and Nicolò’s skill at imbuing them with his own personality, charm, and just enough edge to know you’re tasting something new, inspired. He is definitely one to watch and we’re honored to host him on what’s sure to be a beautiful weekend in SF.
