Phew! We’ve been getting a lot of comments on our recent post about pricing, and we wanted to take a minute to explain a few things.
We always strive to keep our prices as affordable as we can. But the truth is—running a business, especially a farming business, is more expensive than ever. Here are just a few things to consider.
- Every time minimum wage goes up, we also need to raise wages for all our other employees. And farming is no easy job—it’s incredibly labor-intensive.
- Farm insurance goes up every year.
- Supplies and materials keep increasing… we know you’ve felt that, too. The cost of everything is higher these days.
🌱Even though New Jersey is known as the “Garden State,” it’s actually one of the most expensive states in the country to farm in. According to Rutgers Extension:
- Nationally, New Jersey is #1 in COST of fertilizer, lime, soil conditioners per acre. #1 in COST of property taxes paid per acre. #1 in COST of gasoline, fuel, oils per acre. #1 in COST of utilities per acre. #1 in COST of hired farm labor per acre.
We’re a family-run farm, and eight families are part of our business. We deeply care about our community and customers. Despite rising costs, we’re committed to keeping our prices fair while still supporting the people behind the scenes who make all this possible.
One of our favorite quotes sums it up well:
“When you buy from a small farm, you’re not helping a CEO buy a third home—you’re helping a kid get braces, a family pay their mortgage, and a community keep its roots.”
People often complain about the loss of Farms in the area- but expect prices to be what they were in decades ago. 😅We’re trying to survive, provide for our families, and keep farming LOCAL food for our communities. Behind every tomato, peach, or ear of corn is a REAL PERSON who planted it, cared for it, harvested it, and packed it for you.
So when you support local farms, you’re not just buying food. You’re helping keep this way of life alive. Thank you for continuing to support local. It truly means the world to us. & if you’d like to shop somewhere else too, that’s your right. But you don’t have to tell us in the comments. 😉❤️
