Nothing pairs better with a classic seafood boil than an off-dry German Riesling or crisp Brut Champagne: zesty acidity, a hint of sweetness, and just enough sparkle to handle the spice and seafood.

Another Wednesday, another Italian wine. LET ME LIVE! 🤌🏼

Like disco, Arneis nearly vanished in the ‘70s when overshadowed by Piedmont’s red heavyweights, Barolo and Barbera. But this medium-bodied, lush white staged a comeback, riding the wave of Italian whites back into relevance. It pairs beautifully with rich pastas, risotto, and really shines alongside a Costco rotisserie chicken straight from the container. 🕺🏻

Wine Crush Wednesday is back… and this one is heavy on la dolce vita. 🍋  Right in time for these, erm, cooler temps? Hey, below 90 is good enough for me to break out the rich reds, and I am starting with this Sicilian crowd pleaser. Nero D’Avalo is an indigenous grape and strikes the perfect balance of offering a lush red fruit flavor, the spicy minerality only a volcanic island can offer, and still going down real smooth. Best with tomato based pasta dishes, roast meats, or rewatching Godfather 3 on Blu-Ray.

For all this pumpkin spice latte talk, it is still… hot. ☀️ And nothing hits the spot under the glare of the Angry Sun from Mario Bros. 3 like a zesty white wine. But I am here to tell you, and your mom’s whole bridge group, that there are options others than Pinot Grigio.

Enter Assyrtiko 🇬🇷 the Greek goddess of the white wine aisle that pours bright with a hint of flinty minerality thanks to the volcanic soil of Greece. 🌋 Notes of citrus and the inherently high acidity pairs perfectly with shellfish, feta cheese, and that one episode of Full House when Uncle Jesse’s evil doppelganger cousin Stavros comes to visit.

Label Cheat Sheet 🗒️: While this lean varietal traditionally drinks clean and crisp, if the label reads “Reserve”, you can expect a plumper apple or peach flavor from extended oak barrel aging.

Don’t let the screw top… screw with you. This rich and sleek Burgundy delivers all the juicy red fruit and gravitas of a far more expensive bottle of French Pinot Noir. I call this my low stakes sexy Thursday night bottle because Thursday night is objectively the most underrated evening and always the best night to go to a decent restaurant or wear something low cut or start a very niche jigsaw puzzle with someone who knows what your favorite TGIF show was in 1993.
