This month, the City said a bittersweet congratulations to Mike Larson as he retires after 30 years of service to our Liquor Operations. Mike has been a strong, steady influence who helped grow our liquor stores into one of the top six municipal operations in the state. “It’s about relationships," Mike says. “If people feel connected and feel like it’s their store, they won’t think about going somewhere else.”
That philosophy helped guide the operation through major changes in the industry including the arrival of big box liquor chains that dramatically shifted the industry. Despite increased competition, the stores adapted and grew.
Mike is excited for the next chapter in his life but also for the future of the City’s liquor operation. He looks forward to spending more time with family and friends, and enjoying life as a husband, father, and grandfather. Looking back, Mike says the greatest reward has been the relationships built along the way. “You never really know the impact you have on people,” he says, “Sometimes it’s the small moments that matter most.” Congratulations Mike on an amazing career and best wishes for your retirement!
