Nova Scotia’s Cabot Trail is one of Canada’s most scenic highways, and for Wayne Wrathall, it's also part of his weekly delivery route.

For 10 years, Wayne has been travelling the picturesque roads of his home province, delivering propane to our valued customers.

“It’s never the same drive twice,” says Wayne. “I get to catch glimpses of wildlife, share moments with travellers and talk about the land that raised me.”

Wayne’s career has kept him close to home — near enough to take his daughter to her sports practices. From making propane deliveries by day to cheering from the sidelines by night, he always puts his family and his community first.

“I know how fortunate I am," he says. "I get to work with wonderful customers and come home to a place I love. What’s better than that?”

From all of us at Irving Oil, thank you to the Professional Drivers like Wayne who help keep our communities running.

When our Saint John refinery opened in 1960, a state-of-the-art unit known as the "cat cracker" was a critical piece of processing equipment and a point of pride for all who celebrated our new refinery.

Now, 65 years later, our Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU) is in the midst of a $100-million upgrade — a symbol of our company's commitment to providing a secure supply of energy to our customers and of the unit's continued importance to our refining operations.

The project, which continues until October, includes substantial upgrades to maximize performance and enhance efficiency and reliability, bringing in approximately 675 skilled workers from New Brunswick and neighbouring provinces.

Building on the strength of our past, this project helps us grow for the future.

Long before there were road signs in Atlantic Canada, town marker signs could be found at Irving locations across the region. For many years, these signs served as beacons of home and helped direct travellers along their journey, encouraging our customers to always drive safely.

Today, many of these antique road signs are proudly displayed throughout our home office in Saint John, NB. From Heart's Delight, NL, to Saint-Perpétue, QC, and many points in between, the signs are reminders of our deep roots and 101-year history in Eastern Canada and beyond.

Today marks 95 years since the birth of our former President and Chairman Emeritus, Arthur L. Irving.

Mr. Irving passed away on May 13, 2024. His lifetime of dedication to our company continues to inspire us each day.

In honour of his enduring legacy, Mr. Irving’s portrait is now displayed across our office locations, including in our home office in Saint John, NB, next to a photo of his father, K.C. Irving, who founded our company in 1924.

A lamp next to their photographs remains lit at all times – a reminder to always take care of our customers.

There was no hesitation when the Canadian Red Cross called on Liam Walsh to join the effort to help the more than 20,000 families displaced by wildfires in Manitoba this past month.

For Liam, an Intermediate Accountant with our company, it was a chance to give back to an organization that inspired him. In 2017, the Red Cross offered to support his family after a house fire in Truro, NS, motivating him to later join as a volunteer.

“The kindness and selflessness I experienced from those volunteers opened my eyes. It made me want to help others caught in these circumstances.”

Liam considers his family fortunate — everyone made it out safely and he was able to stay with relatives — but says the organization went above and beyond to provide care and support.

In Winnipeg, as an Emergency Response Technician, Liam reunited with familiar faces from previous volunteer efforts as they worked to support displaced residents with hotel rooms, relief centres, transportation and necessities.

“My team at Irving Oil has supported me through the whole volunteer process,” he says. “Knowing I could step away to help others, they helped make sure my work was covered.” Through our company’s employee giving and volunteering program, our teams are always encouraged to give back to causes that are important to them.

Thank you, Liam, and to all of our employees who continue to make a difference.

When Nada Nasr moved to Canada from Egypt 10 years ago, it was important for her to stay true to her heritage.

From cooking traditional Egyptian meals to watching Arabic TV shows and reading Egyptian books, she made space for her culture in her everyday life.

“Over the last two years, I’ve held on to the things that matter — especially my language.”

Now in her role at Irving Oil as a Governance and Compliance Specialist, Nada loves the chance to share her culture with her colleagues. She was one of many employees who took part in our first Culture Fest – a celebration of food, culture, music and traditions with representation from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Philippines and Nigeria in honour of Canadian Multiculturalism Day.

For Nada, multiculturalism is about more than diversity — it's about creating spaces that are inclusive and promote belonging for all.

“It’s about being able to bring your whole self to work, feeling supported and included,” she says.

Thank you, Nada, and to all of our employees who celebrated Culture Fest with us — a vibrant reminder of the power of inclusion and coming together.
