Please call or stop in after 3pm to order!
Thanks for the memories, Rock City! Tomorrow 12/31 will be the last day of business under J.O.S. ownership. The store will close for 2 days and reopen on Jan, 3rd.
We appreciate your patience, patronage and grace over the last 14 years!
Please appease me for a few minutes while I recap a couple of the more important things I’ve learned in the past decade-plus. I promise to keep it short(ish)!
Small stores like “JOS” have all but vaporized. All the little stores that we have such fond memories of are gone. It takes a major effort from the business AND customer to keep these places viable. There’s lots of preaching to “shop local” on social media as we drive to a “super store” (I’ve been guilty too). Hell, we’ll even drive out of the state to save $20 or $30 on booze because the perceived “savings” vs. all the time and hassle somehow makes sense. Comparing prices between mom & pop shops and giant corporations is simply meaningless – enough said. We need to have the conscious thought that we are investing in our community when we shop locally. Our dollars will be reinvested as local wages, local donations and even local interest (at the local banks and credit unions). In fact, I’ll offer a thought: Imagine if Hansens’s Hardware had closed in 2009 and nobody had ever reopened the store… what do you imagine this community would look like now (14 years later)? I am very thankful that we’ve had the rare opportunity to witness first-hand what a community effort can do for a small business and a village. It has been eye-opening and life changing.
One request I’d like to make to all our customers and friends is to embrace the change in ownership! This change is a GREAT thing and I, for one, am so excited to see what this store will do with some fresh ideas and energy. Please, please, please DO NOT hold the new owner’s “hostage” to our methods and ideals! This was one of the biggest hurdles for us to overcome in our first few yea
