Bourbon fans, this is the ultimate wh***ey science experiment. π§ͺπ₯
Freddie Noe and the team at Hardin's Creek just dropped a fascinating new project. They took the exact same mash bill, fermented it the exact same way, aged it all for 8 years, and bottled it at 109 proof.
The only difference? The distillation target proof point "off the still."
By changing just that one variable, they created three entirely unique flavor profiles from the exact same liquid:
π Low Distillation Profile: Deep, robust, and heavy. Distilling at a lower ABV preserves a ton of fatty acids and raw grain character. Perfect if you love a big, bold, viscous pour.
βοΈ Middle Distillation Profile: Balanced, sweet, and classic. This strikes the sweet spot with lighter oak, subtle smoke, and a beautiful aromatic sweetness.
π High Distillation Profile: Clean, crisp, and precise. Distilling at a higher proof strips away the heavy congeners, leaving behind an elegant, foundational grain structure.
It's a masterclass in how front-end distillation choices shape what ends up in your glass.
Have you had a chance to track down this 3-bottle set yet? If youβve tasted them, which profile is taking the crown for youβLow, Middle, or High? Let me know in the comments! π
