Good morning friends and neighbors.
As many of us know, on Monday, July 27th, the city of Menasha was devastated by an EF-3 tornado. Mayor Hammond has declared a Local State of Disaster, and the city is currently closed as first responders and those impacted try to secure the area and start the recovery process.
To help our neighbors and those affected by this horrible storm, a donation drive has been organized to collect items necessary to rebuild and restore what has been lost. From today through Wednesday, August 5th, you can drop off any donated items at either J Mart #16 or Adell Minimart any day of the week between the hours of 6am and 9pm. Donations can also be picked up within a reasonable distance.
Yesterday, I spoke with a volunteer at Christ the Rock Community Church, which is graciously serving as a temporary shelter for those who lost their homes or were otherwise displaced, and we discussed immediate needs. On Thursday, August 6th, I will deliver all donations to Menasha. Any cash donations will go to purchasing any items that are still needed, and a receipt can be provided for tax purposes. All cash donations of $100 or more will be entered in a drawing for a $25 BP or Mobil gift card!
Immediate needs:
-cleaning supplies, paper towels, trash bags, laundry detergent
-toiletries, feminine hygiene products
-diapers, wipes, formula, baby food
-emergency supplies (batteries, portable power sources, flashlights, etc…)
-pet food and carriers
-bedding, sleeping bags
-clothing items
Please make sure all clothing and bedding are clean and in new or good used condition.
I’ve lived in Random Lake for almost 5 years now, and I’ve seen the kindness and generosity of strangers over and over again. Let’s come together and help those we can. I’m sure a lot of us have items that can be used, and after all the rummage sales from this past weekend, it would be a great opportunity to get rid of anything you still have laying around.
As of right now, it will just be me in my small SUV, so please try to limit bulky or large items. If we have a good response, I’m willing to make a second trip the following week.
Thank you so much, Random Lake! Please share this post far and wide, and contact me with any questions!
