Out Of Steam- Geared Together

Out Of Steam- Geared Together A place where you can find gifts for those you love. We offer popular items, as well as vintage. And thus NatureEsacpe Photography was born.

In 2011, when we were pregnant with our first child, we decided that there had to be more to live than working at jobs that we had no passion for. My husband worked retail, stocking shelves at night, and I was a housekeeper. That is when we decided to entertain the idea to start our own at home business. We did a lot of nature photos and sold them at crafting events. Soon after, we started doing E

ndurance Rides for local horse owners. It took our dream of owning our own business to a whole new level. Selling things out of the house was an exciting concept. December of 2014, we came up with the concept of having a retail online business for unique items not found at most events. We started out with Furry Bones products and worked our way up from there. At the time, we were working full time with a newborn and toddler in the house. On the weekends, we did photo events and were just starting out with a retail business. Thus the company name “Out of Steam” came about. Now we carry Sci-fi/Geek type items along with a new line of Steampunk products. All Steampunk products are handmade so they are being added at a slower pace.

I’ve been working really hard on finding new things to keep the business fresh. That led to us bringing in 4–5 new designers for the business. Ouch! 😂 And I’m STILL working my way through coding all of that.

Then after Deschutes County Fair, I noticed something big.

We’re getting a pretty big following in a few different areas: Mythical Beasts, D&D fans, and BOOK READERS.

So we soft launched some Mystery D&D Dice to see how they would go. It’s been slow, and honestly, it’s not where I want it yet. I just haven’t had the time to get it there—and that’s completely fine. I know it’ll be great when I finally get it fully put together.

But there was something else going on…

Blind Date with a Book was going WILD.

Teagan has been wanting to get some of them, but most of the ones we were finding were geared toward adults. And that’s when the wheels started turning.

Since fair, I have been researching… and researching… and researching some more. It has taken FOREVER to get here.

I started with some simple rules: the books had to be the first book in their series, and I wanted to keep things mellow in the romance department.

Then the books started rolling in and I realized I had gotten myself into a HUGE mess. 😂 We had boxes everywhere.

Friends told me, “Just start with a few and build from there.”

Apparently I don’t know how to do that.

I started with Middle School books and picked three different genres so there would be some variety. But then I thought… what if the one book I picked isn’t their cup of tea—or hot chocolate for these kids? So obviously I needed three different books per genre.

Next came Teens.

This one was HARD because there can be so much underlying romance content. I did a deep dive into each book trying to make sure the romance stayed pretty light.

I was originally toying with not doing an Adult line at all, but honestly… the adults are the ones bringing their kids into our booth. Why not give them something they might love too?

So that turned into an Adult line with two genres.

And then it happened.

I realized we had 3D prints that were not being utilized to their full potential.

HELLO, SPICY BOOKTOK LINE. 🌶️😂

Yep. We went there.

At this point, I thought I had every age covered.

Except… what about our littles?

And that brought out our Bedtime Stories line. ❤️

I was SO excited about this whole idea, but also really nervous about what people would think of my book picks. Guys, I spent almost every waking hour for nearly a week straight researching books for this project.

And originally?

These were supposed to launch 2–3 weeks ago. 😂

That obviously did not happen.

Every time I thought we were getting close, I realized there was something else that needed to be done. More books to research, more things to design, more printing to finish—especially because every Mystery Book Quest comes with a Book Guardian.

So I postponed the launch.

Then postponed it again.

And probably again. 😂

Finally, I decided today was sink or swim.

I booked this show knowing that no matter what, these books were GOING on that table. I wanted to finally do the soft launch and see what people thought.

I thought everything was ready to assemble.

It was not.

We were up until midnight getting everything together. And this little “soft launch” that everyone told me to keep small?

30 books.

They filled three crates…and the car.

Yikes.

But we got them to the show!

We were fixing problems with sealing and labeling right up until the minute we opened.

Then someone finally walked up and asked me about the books.

And guys…

I found a spark again.

Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE 3D printing. I love seeing the kids come into our booth and get excited about everything we make.

But I also love books.

Being able to share that with people and show off books for all different ages made me so dang proud of what we had created.

And then…

THE BAGS STARTED FLYING OFF THE TABLE.

People were loving them. ❤️

Then I had that ONE customer.

This adorable little girl came up and asked about books for her age. I could have SWORN she was around 8, so I started showing her our Middle School line.

She was not 8.

She was almost 6.

🤦‍♀️

I. HAD. BOOKS. FOR. EVERY. AGE.

EXCEPT GRADE SCHOOLERS.

Apparently my “cover every age group” master plan had one teeny tiny hole in it. 😂

So now, while I’m ordering replacements to fill the holes people made in our inventory today, I’m ALSO working on an entirely new Grade School Mystery Book Quest line.

And honestly?

I am so freaking excited.

Not only about this new line, but about what we have planned after it.

Our booth is starting to feel different. It’s no longer just another booth filled with 3D prints. We’re finding ways to combine what we make with the things we actually love—mythical creatures, D&D, books, imagination, and all the weird little things that make us us.

It feels like Out of Steam has a little more of us in it now.

And I absolutely love where this is going. ❤️📚🐉

PACKED TO THE GILLS AND HEADED TO THE SOUTHERN OREGON FLEA MARKET!

When I say we packed the car… I mean there is officially NO MORE CAR. 😂

Every bin. Every table. Every display. Every last little thing has been Tetris-ed into place, and somehow IT ALL FIT.

And somewhere buried in this chaos is the brand new thing I’ve been pouring basically ALL of my brainpower into for the last few weeks. 👀

I’ve designed.
I’ve printed.
I’ve packaged.
I’ve changed my mind approximately 847 times.
And I may have sacrificed a tiny bit of my sanity along the way. 😂

But TODAY it finally makes its debut!

I’m still not telling you what it is. 😈
You’ll have to come find Out of Steam at the Southern Oregon Flea Market and see it for yourself!

Now please come buy things so we don't have to figure out how to fit all of this back in the car again. 🤣❤️

LET’S GOOOOOO! 🐉✨

SQUEE!!! 🎉 WE HAVE SOME VERY HAPPY PRINTER NEWS!

For the past year—maybe even longer—we've basically been running Out of Steam on only 3–4 printers.

We tell everyone we have seven printers, and technically we DO... but four of our machines are getting older, which means there's usually at least one throwing a tantrum. 😂

Mortica has been our biggest problem child. We've tried and tried to get her running correctly, and nothing seemed to work. The kids' older printers started developing similar issues, but we've managed to limp them along.

Then a few weeks ago, Sloth-a-Tron decided to scream the song of his people while his print bed repeatedly seized up. 🤦‍♀️
So... it was time.

Deschutes County Fair left us with dangerously low inventory, and our show schedule doesn't really slow down until the end of August. We desperately need every printer we own right now.
Yesterday I started figuring out exactly what parts we'd need to resurrect everyone and making a plan to purchase them. Some of these parts aren't cheap—one board alone is $70 directly from the manufacturer or around $140 if I buy it from California, and I thought I needed TWO of them. 😭

Before ordering everything, though, I decided to give Mortica ONE. LAST. TRY.

And then something clicked.

These poor printers have been moved from room to room, rearranged countless times, and even moved house to house during close wildfire evacuations. Maybe nothing was actually broken. Maybe everything had just slowly gotten knocked out of alignment.

So I started from the beginning.
Calibration.
Calibration.
More calibration.
Tweaking.
Testing.
More tweaking...

MORTICA IS ALIVE!!! 🖤🎉

She's currently on her second round of prints with ZERO issues.
That success made me decide to completely recalibrate all four of our older machines.

And now...
🥁🥁🥁

THREE OUT OF FOUR ARE RUNNING FLAWLESSLY AGAIN!! The 4th will be flawless once its done with its current print and I can calibrate it ❤

That leaves us with only ONE printer that actually needs parts before we're back to having ALL SEVEN printers running like busy little bees! 🐝

I'm also really hoping this solves some of the little quality issues we've been fighting. I currently have a rather impressive collection of "almost perfect but not quite" prints sitting in the garage. 😂

Which brings me to one more announcement...

👀 KEEP WATCHING OUR PAGE FOR DISCOUNT BOXES! 👀

I'm going to start sorting through our imperfect inventory and putting together boxes of prints with minor defects at HUGE discounts.

Maybe there's a cosmetic flaw. Maybe a printer had a tiny tantrum. They're not perfect enough for us to sell at our normal prices—but they're still perfectly lovable!

So they'll be looking for homes soon. ❤️

For now, I'm just ridiculously excited to hear the sound of a room full of printers again.

Mortica lives! 🖤

Now somebody please knock on wood before one of them hears me bragging about this. 😂

🌲🦌 CELEBRATE THE OUTDOORS is coming back to Prineville! 🦌🌲

We had so much fun at this event last year, and I would absolutely love to see even more people come out and support it this year!

📣 BIG UPDATE: The event has recently been moved INDOORS to the Crook County Fairgrounds Indoor Arena — so no worrying about the heat, smoke, wind, or whatever Central Oregon decides to throw at us that day. 😂

This is a FREE family event with a bunch of fun things planned, including:

🏹 Archery
🎯 BB Gun Booth
🦆 Duck Decoy Painting
🔎 Scavenger Hunt

⚠️ Fair Vendor Disclaimer ⚠️

I am not responsible for anything I say, do, buy, or accidentally agree to during Fair week. 😂

Sleep is optional. Caffeine is mandatory. Meals have consisted of energy drinks and whatever samples happen to wander by. My brain has officially gone on strike until teardown.

If I wave at a mannequin, forget simple math, or stare into space trying to remember what day it is... please be patient. The last remaining brain cell is working overtime. 🤪

Weekend Sale! 🌿

All of our remaining planters are just $25 this weekend!

And while digging through our stored inventory, I found a BUNCH of items that never even made it to the booth! 😱 They'll be coming out today, so even if you've already stopped by, there are new treasures to check out.

📍 Find us in the Indoor Building at the Deschutes County Fair!

❤️ Fair Week is Here! ❤️

It's finally here! We'll be at the Deschutes County Fair in Redmond Wednesday through Sunday, and we can't wait to see everyone!

The printers have been running around the clock trying to restock after an amazing weekend. We sold out of our fans, turtles, snakes, and so many dragons, so we've been working hard to fill the shelves again before opening day.

At the same time, our hearts are still at home. Like many families in Central Oregon, we're keeping a close eye on the wildfire situation while getting ready for one of our biggest events of the year. It's been an emotional week, but we're grateful for the firefighters and crews working so hard to protect our communities.

If you're heading to the fair, come say hi! We'll have lots of dragons, fidgets, new Animals with Attitude, and plenty of other 3D printed creations. We always love seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones.

Thank you all for supporting our little family business. Every purchase, every kind word, and every visit to our booth means more than you know. ❤️

See you at the fair!

Life has been a little extra busy around here lately, and I'll admit... I've been slacking on booking shows this year. 😅 There are just so many moving pieces in our lives right now.

Thankfully, we've had several event organizers reach out and invite us to be part of their shows, so our calendar is slowly but surely filling up. 💚 Thank you to everyone who has thought of us—it truly means a lot to our little family business.

Also, we'll be out of the office until Monday morning while we celebrate our oldest Junior Owner's birthday! 🥳 Family time comes first this weekend, and we're looking forward to making some memories.

We'll be back on Monday to answer messages, pack orders, and get the printers humming again. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! 🍄🐉

🐉✨ LAST CHANCE TO SEE US... FOR A LITTLE WHILE! ✨🐉

Today is the final day of Western Days!

Yesterday the wind and rain definitely put us all to the test, but we're back and ready for one last day. If you've been waiting to stop by, today is the day!
After today, Out of Steam is taking a 3-week break from shows. During that time, we'll be hard at work behind the scenes printing, creating, and completely refreshing our booth.

When you see us again at the fair... ✨ Expect brand-new designs. 🐉 More dragons and magical creatures. 🌿 A refreshed woodland-inspired display. 👀 And a few surprises we've been working on!

If you've had your eye on one of our dragons, now's the time to grab it—some designs may not return, while others will be making way for all the new creations.

Come say hello, browse the booth, and help us finish Western Days on a high note. We can't wait to show you what's coming next!

❤️ Thank you for supporting our small family business. Every visit, share, and purchase helps us keep the printers running and the magic alive.
