With Summer winding down and Fall around the corner, it is the perfect time to talk about the new release of one of my favorite wines! This Spanish Monastrell is a wonderfully balanced red that is great for both fall gatherings and the upcoming holiday season!

Casa Castillo was originally founded in 1870, and was purchased by the current owners’ grandfather in 1941. Grapes from the property were sold off to other winemakers in the region for decades, until a decision was made in 1985 to repair the old winery on the property. The first vintage was released in 1991, and the estate now consists of 170 hectares of organically-farmed vineyards, and is regarded as one of the top producers of Monastrell in Spain!

The 2024 Monastrell is medium-bodied, with bold red berry fruit flavors, great freshness, and hints of earth and herbs on the finish. This versatile red can be paired with anything from a cheeseboard to a big juicy steak. Relatively young, this red is showing well now, and can be enjoyed over the next 3-5 years!
