Exploring Bottled-in-Bond, Barrel Proof & Aged Spirits
This week’s featured selections highlight craftsmanship, heritage, and aging techniques across both whiskey and tequila—offered as part of a special educational bundle display.
⸻
What is Bottled-in-Bond?
A designation created by the 1897 Bottled-in-Bond Act, meaning the spirit was made in one distillation season, aged at least 4 years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at exactly 100 proof. Look for this on bottles like E.H. Taylor Small Batch, Single Barrel, and Clyde May’s.
What is Barrel Proof or Uncut & Unfiltered?
Barrel proof spirits (like E.H. Taylor Barrel Proof) are bottled without dilution—meaning no water is added after aging. This preserves the whiskey’s full flavor and strength, exactly as it came out of the barrel.
What about aged tequila like Rey Sol Añejo?
Rey Sol is a luxury añejo tequila aged for 6 years in French oak barrels. Made from 100% Blue Weber agave, it’s rich, smooth, and complex, offering notes of chocolate, dried fruit, and oak—housed in a signature sun-shaped bottle that reflects its artisanal quality.
These bottles are curated to showcase traditional production laws, aging styles, and flavor depth. Perfect for enthusiasts interested in learning more about the history and science behind what’s in the glass.
