Somebody's going to sit in our parking lot tomorrow morning and cry a little, and we want them to know that's allowed. 🚌

The first drop-off is a strange kind of hard. You spend weeks getting them ready for it — the backpack, the shoes, the practice runs — and then the door closes, the hallway swallows them, and you're just standing there. Every parent who's done it knows the walk back to the car.

So: our lot's open. Nobody's watching. Take your minute.

And when you're ready, there's hot coffee inside and somebody behind the counter who's probably done this exact morning themselves. Tell us who you dropped off — we'd love to hear their name. 💙

PITTSFIELD, MASS. — On the first morning of the new school year, an area parent purchased a coffee at the Lipton Market on South Street, sat in the parking lot, and drank the entire thing while it was still hot — an event witnesses described as "quietly emotional."

The parent, who sources confirm had not finished a hot beverage since approximately June, gripped the cup with both hands and stared through the windshield in silence. "It's hot. The whole cup. Start to finish," they said, voice unsteady. "Do you understand what I'm telling you. No one asked me for anything. Nobody needed a snack. It was just me and the coffee."

Witnesses report the parent declined to turn on the radio "so as not to break the spell," sat for eleven uninterrupted minutes, and at one point simply whispered "school." A single tear was observed. The parent did not wipe it away, reportedly "out of respect for the moment."

Asked whether they missed the children, the parent said "of course," immediately, and with feeling, then confirmed they would be returning tomorrow "at the same time, for the rest of the year, possibly forever." They have already named the parking spot.

The children could not be reached for comment. They are in school, which is the entire point.

PITTSFIELD, MASS. — Ahead of Labor Day, an area man brought his car through the Lipton Car Wash on South Street, describing the visit as "a small thank-you" for what he called "a long, faithful summer of service."

The man, whose 2015 Camry sources confirm is a car and not an employee, said the gesture was overdue. "This thing hauled the whole family to Tanglewood, up Greylock, back and forth to the lake all summer. It never once complained," he said, resting a hand on the roof. "Everybody else gets the holiday off. I wasn't about to let it go unrecognized."

Witnesses report the man selected the premium wash "as a bonus, not a base rate," delivered brief remarks in the vacuum bay, and referred to the vehicle throughout as "a real one." He is said to have considered a small plaque before deciding it "would be too much," then reconsidered twice.

Asked whether the car was aware of the tribute, he said that was "not the point of a tribute," confirmed he had let it idle in the shade afterward "to rest," and noted that loyalty like this "goes both ways." He has reportedly given the car Monday off.

The Camry could not be reached for comment. It has, by all accounts, earned the silence.
