Saturday, August 29th is a two-stop kind of day. First: the Humane Society's Happy Tails Auction & BBQ at The Orchard at Charlie Clark's, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — good food, good cause, occasionally competitive bidding on raffle baskets. Second: us. The freezer's fully stocked with Thrifty's, in flavors the whole mountain seems to agree on, and we intend to keep it that way through the weekend.

There's an old rule that you can judge a general store by its bathroom. We took that personally. Sage walls, a vintage red sconce standing guard by the mirror, floors that don't require flip-flops — restroom or its own destination, we honestly can't tell anymore. Come in for the coffee. Stay because the bathroom is, unreasonably, this nice. One for boys, one for girls.

Mornings move a little slower up here — which is exactly the point. Pull in before 7 a.m., find the trailer gleaming like it just rolled off a car show floor, and order something with oat milk in it while the mountain wakes up around you. We've been told our espresso is the best on the mountain. We didn't dispute it.

Caffe Vita beans, roasted right here in Arizona, poured daily from our little silver trailer into your hands. Grab a seat on the deck, let the dog have some water, stay as long as you like.

August 15th has been declared Relaxation Day by somebody, somewhere, so we've adopted it. So, we're giving ourselves official permission to slow down — and we'd like some company. Stop by, sit for a while, and work your way through a shelf of candles that smell better than most vacations. No itinerary required. Smells like a weekend.

Don’t forget about the farmers market at Pinetop Provisions tomorrow from 9-2! We have over 14 vendors, 2 food trucks and a petting zoo!! Vendors range from Taylor sweet corn, handmade crafts, baked goods and lots more! Not to mention local sourdough and AZ waygu beef that we always carry inside the store.
