Good morning everyone and happy Cinco de Mayo. The first round of Border Wars is in the books and it had everything you can expect from a big go-kart race. Excitement, disappointment, good racing, and drama. There were eleven classes b I'mut I'm only reporting on five. I'm not fixing to sit here and write a book. 😆 It will still be a lengthy one, so grab a beverage and buckle up....

The women's class had six ladies show up for battle. Sheena Noyes started on the pole for the heat race in the #13. She jumped out to the early lead and held it for a couple of laps until Myrka Sussex got by in the #25. Myrka was cruising to victory but the chain came off as she took the white flag. Sheena took back the lead and the win. The #7 of Kylie Killebrew was on the pole for the main with Noyes outside. Sheena beat Kylie into one on the start and built a nice lead. She was well on her way to victory until the yellow came out with two to go. Sheena's motor shut off under caution and after she got started back up, they sent her to the rear. That gave the lead to Sussex after starting last and she rolled it into victory lane. The 11t of teenager Taylor Noyes crossed the line in second and Mariah Moreno capped the podium in the #33....

The super stock light class had four cars sign in. Sheena saw herself sitting on the pole again for the heat race. It didn't take long for Arturo Cortez (Artie) to take the lead from his third starting spot in the #4 and drove away for the win. Artie started on the pole for the main with Mariah Moreno outside. Artie was looking good for the win until he slid up out of the groove midway through and Moreno capitalized on his mistake to take the lead. She was able to hold off the challenge from Cortez to bring it home with the win. Artie slipped up again with one to go and almost lost second but held on with Tristan Gee putting the #88 on the podium....

It was a disappointing turnout for the sealed karts as only five karts came to play. Needless to say, it was pretty uneventful. Jason Benedict was on the pole for the heat in the #17. Cj Bunch started outside and drove the to the win. The #18 of Brandon Bolton was on the pole for the main with Bunch on the outside. They fell in line on the start with Bolton out front, Cj second and Benedict third. That's how they ran for fifteen laps and finished....

Twelve super stock heavy karts rolled into the pits to put on a show. Heat one had the #61 of Dayton Shelton on the pole. Stevie Sussex started 3rd in the #25 and came across the line in first but was two pounds light on the scales giving Shelton the win. Chris Noyes had the pole for heat two in the 11t but could not hold off the of Dana Fite from the third starting position. Dayton redrew the pole for the main with Jacob Lewis in the 9L outside. Shelton grabbed the lead at the start and was comfortable for the first half of the race. The #17 of Stu Moffett battled his way to second from starting 7th and Stevie fought his way to third after starting last. Stu made a pass for the lead but the yellow came out and had to give it back. When the green flew again, Moffett started putting on the pressure and a couple laps later, he muscled his way underneath Shelton coming off of four and took the lead going into one with Sussex following right behind. Stu was too strong for Stevie to mount an attack and held on for the win. Stevie was right behind in second and Shelton topped the podium. After the race, there was a protest on Stu's motor so he said, "Ok." He pulled out his tech tools and said, "Tech it." It was legal....

The bad boys of the open class brought fifteen karts to the party. TJ Ricketts in the brought them to the green for heat one. Rickey Kinney Jr. took the win from the third starting spot in the 81k. Heat two had Lonnie Oliver in the #22 on the pole but no one had anything for the #71 of Stevie Sussex as he cruised to the win after starting fourth. Heat three saw Greg Bean in the #97 sitting on the pole but it was all "The Godfather," Keith Noyes in the 11n also coming from fourth for the win. The top six from passing points redrew for the main and Aaron Cavaleri drew the pole for his #9. The 24 of Hudson Storment drew outside front row. Sussex was supposed to start fourth but when he rolled out onto the track, he hit the gas pedal and the gear sprocket broke off ending his night. When the green flag dropped, the fight was on. Cavaleri grabbed the lead with Storment dropping in behind. Noyes started fifth and quickly made his was to third. The top three were nose to tail for thirteen laps putting a gap on the rest of the field. Storment got a run off of two, got under Cavaleri and made the pass into three. When he got back on the pedal, he spun the tires and looped it into the infield. That brought out the yellow and it was a two lap dash for all the glory. Noyes threw everything he had including the kitchen sink, the refrigerator, and the oven at Aaron trying to get him to make a mistake. No bobble from Aaron so Keith made a last chance effort going to the outside in four coming to the checkers, got side by side, but Aaron beat him to the line by half a kart length and picking up the $500 check. Kinney Jr rounded out the podium.

That's gonna do it. I will say I'm a little disappointed in one thing. Verde Valley Raceway is hosting the second round of Border Wars and I thought there would be more karts from the pucker brush coming down the hill to support Adobe Mountain Speedway. It's only an hour drive. Bet most of the Valley karts will be up there to support their track for round two. Oh well....

Don't forget, next Friday and Saturday night. Gila Monster Raceway for the Warren Wampole Memorial...

Got to give a BIG shout out for two of my fellow BKA (Backyard Karting Arizona) drivers. Last night at Adobe Mountain Speedway they both got their best finishes. Ricky Noyes came from 15th to 6th in the micros and Rickey Kinney Jr. started 2nd and brought it home 7th in the midgets. Good job boys. Got those monkeys off your backs. Keep pushing and you will get to the podium. Proud of you.

Well my return to racing in Globe did not go as planned. However, it was a good day and in the end a good showing for the Rebel Racing, James Gang Racing, Still Learning racing team....

There were 12 unsealed karts that signed in. Having two heat races and the main. The first heat race was won by Andrew Hetrick in the . Caleb Worley took heat race 2 in his . I called Arron Hetrick on Thursday and told him that my brother was on a cruise and I needed a driver for my stock. He informed me on Saturday evening that he had a driver. I've never let anybody that I've never met drive one of my karts, but since the recommendation came from Arron, I felt comfortable in letting him drive it. His name is Ricky Powell. He came straight from church to the track still in his church clothes which was Wranglers, boots, and a button up shirt. Can't say no to that. He missed hot laps so his first laps was the heat race where he started last and finished last getting lapped. They flipped a coin to decide whether or not to invert the main events for the day and Deegan Hetrick made the call and the mains ended up being inverted. That put Powell on the pole in my #44. He got the feel of the kart, got up on the wheel and lead the first half of the race. He then got passed by Worley and the of Ethan Kelly. Shortly after that he got dumped by Hetrick. The last guy I expected to dump my kart. His reason was that he was just a little faster than Powell at that particular time. 😂 The second half of the race had a lot of action as Worley and Kelly took each other out. There were multiple lead changes and in the end, it was the #33 of Michael Travis Jr getting the win. The big surprise came from the #246 of Elliose K**k. There were no other kids for her to race against and she told dad, Riaan K**k, I got this. She drove smart and stayed out of trouble, which there was quite a bit of, got elbows up and brought it home and second place. Worley battled back to top off the podium. Powell also battled back for a fifth place finish. He did a great job....

Six open karts came out to play. the "Godfather," Keith Noyes ran away with heat one in the Westside Transmission kart. I started on the pole for the second heat in the #44 Rebel Racing rocket. I ran three or four good laps leading and then got over aggressive and spun out in turn two. That gave the lead to Hudson "Hornet" Storment in the #24 and he got the win. The track was extremely rough which is very unusual for Globe. They experimented with something different and it did not work. After the restart from me spinning out, two laps later I hit the holes and one and two and they just pushed me straight up the track and I had nowhere to go but off the back stretch. I pulled it into the pits, looked at Arron Hetrick and asked him if he brought his suit. He said yes and then I said you're driving this sumbitch. That track is too damn rough for me. So with the invert, that put him on the pole for the main. I really thought they were going to send him to the back for making a driver change, but they didn't. Brian Storment was on the outside in the #29. Brian was on a rail and drove a perfect race. He beat Aaron in to turn one and that was all he needed. The rocket was having a little bit of a carburetor issue but Aaron wheeled it to bring it home in second and Eric Kelley Jr. the "Nomax Kid" rounded out the podium in the 21Jr....

It was a beautiful day and some damn good racing. Thank you to Andy Bauer and the rest of the Gila Monster crew. Both my karts rolled onto the trailers with nothing broke....

On a side note, Arron's dog Maggie, makes a good pillow. 😂

ATTENTION KARTERS!!!!

I know everyone has been bitching about the price of tires the last couple of years. I just got home from AZ Kart Werx. While I was there, Darryl mentioned that he hasn't been selling a lot of tires. I know why. What you might not know is the price of Hoosiers has come down. A 12x9 from Darryl is $103, the same as Summit Racing. Y'all have heard the phrase, "Support local businesses." Let's support our local guy who has done so much for go-kart racing in Arizona.

ATTENTION ARIZONA KARTERS AND ANYONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO TRY AND COMPETE WITH THE BEST IN ARIZONA!!!!

With the Don Shipley Memorial and Romero's New Year's race not happening, I told y'all that I'm working on something. That something is happening....

We will have one more race before 2024. December 31st on a Sunday morning before we bring in the New Year, we will be throwing it down (weather permitting) at Gila Monster Speedway in Globe. All Gila Monster classes are welcome. Before you ask, the adults will be open and unsealed. No sealed. This will not be a money race to follow in the footsteps of the Shipley and Romero's. This will be just a fun day to go out and send it and bring in the new year with a win and the right to say you won the last race of 2023. Also, just a chance to hang out with good people and friends one last time this year....

You have plenty of time to come race and get back home for your New Year's plans, or you can just party it down in Globe, which is not a bad option. Those Globe kin folk know how to party 😂....

Stay tuned for more information, but not much should change. Get your karts ready and let's bring in the New Year right....

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. There will not be a New Year's race at Romero's. They have decided not to do New Year's because of the past weather and chance of rain. They are looking at March or April. With no Shipley Memorial and no Romero's, I am working hard to try and get something to happen. I know everyone is used to racing this time of year at two big crown jewels, but we have to adapt. Talks are in the works. It won't be the same as the other two, but I'm trying to get a race happen and it's looking promising....

Good morning everyone. What a damn good night at the fair last night. It's always a good night when I get to hang out with my racing family. Especially when the Clampitts bring the whole Bash Brothers team down from the Pucker Brush. You guys can make a funeral fun....

The turnout was amazing for a Thursday night or any night. Twenty unsealed stocks and twenty one opens. The track was a little bullring that provided some good racing....

The first stock heat was all Derrek Goodwin in the . It might look like the same kart but it was the #7 Pinky kart of Rickey Kinney Jr. taking the second heat. Chris Noyes captured heat three in his #13 and Stevie Sussex drove to the win in heat four driving the Donald Curtis owned #71. Jim Perkins #87 got the B-main win. Twelve karts for the main and it was the Stevie Sussex show driving away for the victory. Kinney Jr gave everything he had for Sussex but it wasn't enough as he came home in second. Zach Sawyers topped off the podium. I think he was driving one of Stevie's karts. Not sure on that one....

The open karts came to play with a very stacked field battling for that prestigious win. The young kid, Connor Lundy, landed a ride in the Keith Noyes owned kart and took heat one putting him on the pole for the main. Lonnie Oliver got the win in heat two. The Rebel Rocket had a new look with my brother, Jesse James, behind the wheel. He started last and finished second putting him in the show. The Golden Boy, Ricky Noyes got behind the wheel of the Stu Moffett owned #73 and took heat three. Big brother, Chris Noyes, got heat four in his #13. Stevie Sussex had to start in the back of the B-main and drove to the win in the Donald Curtis owned #71. When the green dropped for the main, it didn't take the Golden Boy long to take the lead and it was all over at that point as he drove away for the win. The battle behind him was intense. Nobody would have thought second and third came from starting eighth and ninth. Arron Hetrick started eighth in the Wayne Noyes Westside Transmission owned #50 and Stevie started ninth. They both drove their asses off to get to the front and on the last lap, coming off of four to the checkers, Stevie got under Arron to take second by about an inch. I was standing in the infield at the finish line and I couldn't tell who got second. That last second pass cost Arron like $150. Not only did he lose the position, that gave Stevie the hard charger award which paid money. Damn good racing. My brother started sixth. He got up to fourth then got out of the groove and went back to ninth. I think he ended up eighth. He just couldn't get the handle of the kart. Still happy with his performance. He made the show that a couple of big names didn't and brought it home in one piece. Got to work on some things but we will get it....

That's gonna do it for now. I will be in Globe tomorrow night with Arron Hetrick back behind the wheel and the #44 side panels back on....

Thank you to Keith Noyes, all the sponsors, and everyone that helps make this race happen. Look forward to next year....

Sorry a little late but here it is and what it is, it is not a whole hell of a lot to talk about...

It was fair weekend in Globe at Gila Monster Speedway. Let me start by saying that anytime I get to spend time with my Globe family, it is much appreciated and a lot of fun. I love all of you. We even got a new member on the Rebel Racing team from Globe, Aj Saenz who drove the #44 Rebel Racing, James Racing, Noyes Racing, Still Learning Racing stocker. Yes, I have a lot of help in this team to recognize. 😂

So it was a Friday night Saturday morning two day show with money on the line. The stocks had I think nine on Friday night. Don't have heat race results. The main was pretty exciting between the top two. Old man, Andrew Hetrick in the #93 went to battle with the much younger man 😆 Caleb Worley in the . Andy lead the first half of the race but Caleb was able to work him over and eventually take the lead with only a couple to go and get the victory. Aiden Bauer topped the podium in the #4. Aj finished third in his heat and 6th in the main. First time in the kart and just trying to get the feel. Saturday had 11 karts. Arron Hetrick took heat one in the . Worley was victorious in heat two and the kid of Diesel Miller capped off the heats in the #186. The main was almost a repeat from Friday night except it was between Arron Hetrick and Caleb Worley. Those Hetrick's said that they are going to beat that Worley kid. Worley took the early lead. Arron was on him like me on biscuits and gravy with chicken fried steak. With Worley in the opposite position from the night before, it was Arron's turn to work Caleb over and did just that. He got Caleb out of the preferred line, took the lead, and won the race. Miller stepped on the podium in third. Some damn good racing both nights between the Hetrick's and Caleb. Aj started eighth in the main. He got into fifth and with all the yellows and restarts, he kept getting to practice. Once they got the race going, he found a rhythm and found out how fast he can go. "I'm going fast." 😆 He was battling for fourth. Went into three, got tight, pushed up and back to sixth. Next lap, got way loose and flew off of turn three. Pulled it in from there. He did a damn good job for the first time in the stocker....

The opens. First. I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of karts. Although, I'm not overly upset and will explain in a bit. Friday had five karts. My brother, Jesse James was back behind the wheel of the Rebel Racing, James Gang Racing, Shipley Race Engines rocket. I don't know who won the heat race but I know Jesse was last. I don't say that in a bad way. He has never been on a track that fast with that much horsepower. So here's the main. Arron Hetrick in the owned by the Godfather, Keith Noyes, the #29 of Brian Storment and his son, Hudson Stormant in the #24. The #34 of Ken Ploog and Jesse in the rocket. Spinning was the theme of the main. Arron spun leading. Jesse spun leading. Brian drove off to the win. Ploog was second and James managed to finish third. That third will come back later to an earlier reference. Saturday. Two karts. Ploog and James. Ploog goes to Arron Hetrick and tells him to enter his stock, guaranteed $75. Arron gone. Signed up. That decision cost Ken $50. Sorry Ken, had to say it. So Jesse takes the heat race but almost didn't. He spun in four and was lucky enough to have a big enough lead over Hetrick but Arron was on his ass, for a lap. Jesse got the win. So it's Jesse on the pole with Arron outside and Ploog. The race was over before it started. My brother took that horse power advantage to take the time to learn the kart a little more. Come back to that. Jesse gets his first main event win. Yes, happier than a beaver with a new chainsaw. Hetrick second, Ploog Third. Back to learning the kart. Skippy takes the checkers and tries one and two full throttle. He's off the track in one heading for the wall. My first reaction was fear. When he didn't hit the wall, my second reaction was relief. When he decided to not take the access road around to get back on the track to get to victory lane and chose to drive up over a high banked turn, my reaction was OH S**T! I guess he figured since it has a Confederate Flag on it, he thought it was the General Lee. He Duke's of Hazzard that somebitch. I heard Dixie playing in the background, then I heard nothing other than clunk. 😂 He locked up the clutch. My last reaction was, honestly, I still don't know. It might have only been three karts but a win is a win and that brings me to my earlier point about not being too unhappy about everyone sitting home. Both days paid out. $75 for third on Friday night and $250 for first on Saturday. Came home with $325 in my pocket. Yep, it's going to clutches. 😆

With that said, I have to give a big shout out to Ken Ploog. Ken is your 2023 Gila Monster go-kart 212 Open points champion....

Well that's going to do it. Next race. Arizona State Fair October 26th. Get you karts ready or stay home so I can win some more money....
