Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services will host a naturalization ceremony on Thursday, April 23, where 150 individuals will take the oath of citizenship.

This event is open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend and witness this milestone. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. ET at Bandy Creek Visitor Center, with the Honorable Thomas W. Phillips presiding. Local Boy Scout Troop and Crew 333 will conduct the presentation of colors.

“We are so pleased to be welcoming America's newest citizens in this special place,” said Superintendent Niki Stephanie Nicholas. “Their inspirational journeys and experiences are now a part of the story of the Big South Fork.”

Naturalization is the official process through which a foreign citizen or national becomes a United States citizen after meeting the requirements set by Congress in the Immigration and Nationality Act. This process culminates in a formal court proceeding where individuals take the Oath of Allegiance, receive their Certificate of Naturalization and become U.S. citizens.

This official step unites new citizens through a shared commitment to the nation's values, opening doors to new opportunities and a brighter future. Join us as we celebrate these new U.S. citizens and welcome them into the fabric of our nation.

Cumberland Clear is helping to protect the Big South Fork. Please watch this video and consider supporting their cause ... stopping a 700 acre landfill site adjacent to the current one from being built. Water flowing through the proposed site is in the Bear Creek water shed which feeds directly into the Big South Fork River.

From the Big South Fork NRRA park service received Friday, Dec 5th at 3:30pm:

"There is currently no water service in the Bandy Creek area due to a significant leak in the system. Once the source of the leak is located, repair work will begin. We are hopeful that the issue can be resolved at some point tomorrow; however, progress may be delayed due to current weather conditions. We appreciate your patience and will provide updates as more information becomes available."

The 33rd Annual Haunting in the Hills returns Saturday, September 20, at the Bandy Creek Visitor Center area of Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area. The day begins at 10:00 AM (ET) with family activities, music, and cultural demonstrations, then carries on with performances throughout the afternoon before closing with stories under the stars.

Admission is free, and the day offers something for all ages, from lively tales and live music to traditions that celebrate the region’s culture.
