Our Captain, Sarah, picks the 2024 COENOBIUM RUSCUM from Lazio 🧡

Q: Why is this one of your favorite bottles?
Sarah: “I was “raised Catholic” and my grandma would dress up in full nun habit with her colleagues and do standup comedy at local churches. Her kitchen is covered in nun paraphernalia. I’ve always had a peculiar interest in convents, nuns/monks, and trappists. (I love chartreuse and trappist beer too) I find the Paolo Bea wines specifically to taste very ancient and visceral, like you’re hanging out in a dusty old library. This wine in particular, depending on the vintage is very mineral-driven with gentle fruit and can have an incredible tannin reminiscent of Georgian wines, which I love!”

Q: What’s your favorite place to drink this?
Sarah: “Anywhere with the women in my life!”

For a spring wine, Sarah also chose to highlight the 2024 Chateau Pradeaux Bandol Rosé... 🩷
“The nose on this wine is gently funky and euphoric like sweat and plums/grapefruit. I love the mouthfeel and bright fruit, the packaging is also pleasing to look at against the dark, exciting pink color of the wine. I will always return to this Bandol rosé!”

BIBI jumping in this week with the 2022 Radikon Slatnik ✨ “I’m so intrigued by deep, dusty, complex skin-contact wines. The Slatnik (primarily Chardonnay) by Radikon does not slack. It’s layered with flavors of orange peel, apricot, and steeped tea, drink this anywhere, anytime! ❤️

Another favorite: the 2030 Domaine du Closel La Jalousie Savennières:✨ “Chenin Blanc has to be one of the most interesting white wines. This particular Chenin Blanc from the Savennieres region in France, continues to develop in the glass. It starts out lemony and fresh, with lots of acid and by the end of the bottle it’s concentrated bruised pear, bruised apple, honey and almonds. Also, for many generations, this winery was passed down to all the women in the family. I love when women are in charge! ….

“This is a sipping wine. Drink it at home, alone. Take your time with it. Don’t pair this wine with any food. It should be enjoyed on its own so you can pick up on the complexity…”
