A little weekend magic in Guerneville 🌲🍦

We stayed at the sweet and cozy Boon Hotel, where mornings started with breakfast in bed and afternoons were spent fully unplugged by the pool or soaking in the hot tub. At one point, a beautiful moth landed next to me — like a tiny forest guardian saying hey.

We rode bikes through the redwoods, picnicked in sundress-clearings, and ended up at Nimble & Finn’s for ice cream — the perfect post-ride treat.

Had a soulful, delicious meal at Saucy Mama’s Jook Joint, grabbed a drink at the iconic Rainbow Cattle Company, and wandered by Pony Irons, a tattoo shop that may just see us again next time... 😉

Already missing the magic of this little town with a big vibe.

Our journey began over a drink, when and I first connected through Red Bay Coffee more than a decade ago. We shared a deep love for Oakland and the magic of community, which led us to create .alkalirye — a space where people could gather and connect over thoughtfully crafted beverages. And like all good stories, this one is evolving. While our love for sharing beverages remains, Kori and I are finding our paths branching into new and exciting directions.

Kori is dedicating more time to growing with plans to spend more time in Japan, diving deeper into the world of tea, and I will be leading Alkali Rye into its next chapter. This isn’t a goodbye to Kori. You’ll still see him grabbing a glass of wine with me at The Shop, and his spirit will always be part of the Alkali Rye story. It’s just a new chapter—one that we are both genuinely excited to see unfold and to root each other on along the way!

As for me, I am honored to steward this next chapter. I have a vision to build something that Oakland would be proud of, and it starts with more curated experiences where craft, hospitality, and community converge. Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting the Eames Institute in Richmond, California 🖤

Entrepreneurship has a way of draining not just physical energy but creative energy too.

But on a guided tour led by Llisa Demetrios, granddaughter of Ray and Charles Eames, my mind wandered away from the endless to-do lists and into the world of two of the most iconic designers.

I left especially inspired by Ray Eames, who loved her work so deeply that the boundary between life and career simply didn’t exist.

As a fellow workhorse who’s often told to do less, it was validating to be reminded that when we’re truly passionate about what we do, it can become all-consuming—in the best way.
