EJ Curley, available at Liquor Mart of Nicholasville!

During the Civil War, E.J. Curley volunteered for the Massachusetts Cavalry, stationed at the largest union stronghold south of the Ohio, Camp Nelson, Kentucky. He worked in provisions, sourcing grain and water for the Camp.

After the war, he formed a partnership with former Union Army officers to start a distillery in Camp Nelson, located in Jessamine County. At that location, he established some of the industry’s earliest distilleries including the Blue Grass and Boone’s Knoll distilleries, later renamed E.J. Curley & Co., which eventually became known as Kentucky River Distillery.
