Most Ports are filtered for convenience. This one isn’t. And that changes everything.

The new Andresen Late Bottled Vintage 2019 (Unfiltered) just arrived—and it’s the kind of bottle people come back for.

Because when a Port is unfiltered, nothing is stripped away.

👉 More depth
👉 More structure
👉 More of the Douro in the glass

This isn’t just smoother—it’s richer, darker, more alive.

Think:
Blackcurrant. Plum. Dark cherry.
Layered with the kind of intensity you usually only find in Vintage Port.

And yes—it will continue to evolve in the bottle.

From a house known for precision and aged wines, this is a serious step up from standard LBV.

Just don’t forget:
👉 Decant before serving (natural sediment = authenticity)

Now available at Lisbon Wines & Liquors.

PORTUGAL’S WHITES ARE RICHER THAN EXPECTED

Many people expect Portuguese white wines to be light, simple, and easygoing.

Until they taste one.

Because some of Portugal’s best whites offer something completely different:

• creamy texture
• mineral depth
• vibrant freshness
• remarkable richness

Without ever feeling heavy.

The secret often comes from:

→ native Portuguese grapes
→ old vines
→ lees stirring (bâtonnage)
→ coastal freshness
→ careful oak aging
→ balanced acidity

The result?

White wines with texture and elegance that surprise even experienced wine drinkers.

Especially from regions like:

• Dão
• Douro
• Alentejo
• Vinho Verde

Portugal may quietly produce some of the most underrated white wines in Europe.

Most people don’t realize heat can quietly ruin a great bottle of wine. 🍷

Wine begins to lose freshness and balance when stored consistently above 70°F — and temperatures above 80°F can permanently damage it surprisingly fast.

The problem is that many bottles are stored in places that feel convenient:
above the fridge, near windows, or inside warm kitchens.

But wine prefers something much simpler:

cool, dark, and consistent conditions.

Even small changes in temperature can impact aroma, texture, and flavor over time.

A steady environment matters far more than perfection — which is why proper storage is one of the easiest ways to protect the wines you love.

Only 1,000 bottles. 20 years in the making.

Some wines are not just made; they are patiently shaped over decades. Developed slowly in oak barrels, this rare fortified wine from Dão has evolved through careful oxidation and time, much like a complex Tawny-style treasure, creating a truly unique expression.

Rated 93 points by Wine Enthusiast, it’s a wine meant for slow enjoyment, not casual drinking.

The experience is profoundly indulgent. Pouring a deep, rich topaz, it unfolds with layers of candied orange peel, toasted nuts, dried figs, and caramelized wood. On the palate, it is velvety, unctuous, and unforgettably layered with dark chocolate and spice.

Position it as the ultimate after-dinner indulgence, paired with a fine cigar, dessert, or as an exceptional gift for a dedicated collector.

🍷 Portuguese Wine of the Week — Marquês de Borba Colheita Red 2024

Most people don’t realize this about Alentejo… it can produce wines that are both deeply generous and remarkably refined at the same time.

This week’s feature is a perfect example.

Marquês de Borba Colheita Red 2024 comes from limestone and schist soils that naturally balance richness with freshness. It’s a blend that brings together classic Portuguese grapes like Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, and Touriga Nacional with a touch of international structure from Petit Verdot and Merlot.

What makes it stand out is how seamlessly everything comes together. The fermentation is split between stainless steel and traditional marble lagares, then softened with a short aging in French and American oak. Nothing dominates—everything supports the fruit.

In the glass, expect wild berries, cassis, and ripe dark fruit. On the palate, it’s smooth and expressive with polished tannins, a gentle freshness, and a very elegant finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.

This is the kind of red that fits easily at the table—whether you’re serving roasted meats, Mediterranean dishes, or just opening a bottle while cooking and letting it set the tone for the evening.

Serve slightly below room temperature and let it breathe for a few minutes. It opens beautifully.

Explore it now at Lisbon Wines & Liquors, in-store or online.

A Spirited Revival: Mosca, the Forgotten Treasure of Setúbal

Take a step back in time with a taste of pure Portuguese history. Originally born in 1937, Mosca Aguardente Vínica was a beloved spirit, crafted by the historic José Maria da Fonseca. Nearly lost to memory, it has been revived, bringing back a uniquely aromatic distilling tradition.

This isn’t just any aguardente. Mosca is crafted from wine spirit aged patiently in used Moscatel barrels. This process gives it its deep amber hue and allows it to absorb the signature floral and fruity notes of the legendary Moscatel de Setúbal, which JMF pioneered.

The result is a velvety, elegant spirit with a remarkably smooth profile that balances bold character with delicate fruitiness. At 38% ABV, it’s a perfect digestif.

How to enjoy: For the best experience, we recommend serving Mosca slightly chilled (around 16°C) to allow its layered aromas to unfold. It’s an exceptional partner for coffee or dark chocolate after a meal.

Most wine regions simplified their grapes.
Portugal never did.

While much of the world narrowed down to a handful of familiar names… Portugal quietly kept over 250 native varieties alive—each one shaping a different expression of place, tradition, and flavor.

Instead of standardizing, they blended.
Instead of simplifying, they preserved.

That’s why Portuguese wines feel different.

Not louder—just more layered.
Not unfamiliar—just undiscovered.
Not trendy—just authentic.

A few bottles worth exploring:

• Sidónio de Sousa Baga — structured, earthy, and quietly powerful
• Quinta do Crasto Tinta Roriz — rich, polished, and deeply expressive
• Vallado Sousão — bold color, vibrant acidity, intense character
• Pedra Cancela Encruzado — elegant, mineral, and beautifully textured
• Anselmo Mendes Alvarinho — bright citrus, precision, and freshness

You might find something completely new.

are rarely the most familiar.

This is how wine was made 2,000 years ago.

Long before oak barrels became the global standard, the ancient Romans in Alentejo fermented and aged their wines in massive clay vessels called talhas.

It’s a technique that has almost completely vanished, preserved in only a few pockets of Portugal. This is not just a bottle; it’s a living museum piece, made without modern intervention.

This particular Vinho de Talha from Esporão is even rarer because it is crafted from Moreto—an indigenous, almost forgotten Portuguese grape variety deeply tied to the Alentejo terroir. Moreto brings an unadulterated authenticity and unique profile you cannot replicate with modern methods.

The experience is captivating. Pouring a bright ruby color, it opens with evocative aromas of ripe red berries, forest floor, and distinctive earthy notes. It has a beautiful texture on the palate, with subtle spice, rustic elegance, and a true sense of place.

👉 This isn't just a wine; it’s a taste of history.

This doesn’t happen often.

A Vintage Port year has officially been declared for 2024.

On April 23, 2026 — St. George’s Day — the leading houses of the Douro formally confirmed what the wines were already saying: this is a classic vintage.

It has been seven years since the last general declaration (2017).

And 2024 stands apart.

Major producers including Fladgate Family Wines and Symington Family Estates, alongside houses such as Niepoort, Kopke, Ramos Pinto, and Sandeman, have all declared 2024 a vintage of rare precision.

What defines it?

Cooler finishing conditions after a warm growing season, balanced ripening, and something winemakers keep repeating: “Douro elegance with backbone.”

The result is a year of structure, freshness, and remarkable aging potential — but also one of the smallest declared productions in modern history.

Rare. Focused. Built for the cellar.

The official recognition by the IVDP (Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto) that this is a classic year should by concluded by September 2026.

Will 2024 be part of your cellar?

🇵🇹 Portuguese Wine of the Week — Lote 44 Reserva Red 2021

This might be one of the most overlooked powerhouse reds coming out of Lisboa right now.

While most people chase Douro or Alentejo, there’s a quiet pocket near Arruda where producers like Adega de Arruda are crafting blends that rival wines twice the price. Lote 44 Reserva is a perfect example—bringing together Touriga Nacional, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, then polishing it with French oak for added depth and structure.

In the glass, it opens with ripe red fruit, dark berries, and a subtle touch of vanilla and spice. The palate is rich and full-bodied, layered with blackberry, plum, and warm spice, all wrapped in smooth, velvety tannins. It’s powerful—but refined in a way that makes it incredibly easy to enjoy.

This is the kind of bottle you bring out when the table is set for something serious—grilled meats, slow-roasted lamb, aged cheeses—or when you just want a red that feels complete on its own.

Serve slightly below room temperature and give it a few minutes to open up. It rewards patience.

You can explore it now in-store or online at Lisbon Wines & Liquors.

Curious—when you’re picking a bold red, do you usually go for classic regions… or are you open to discovering something like Lisboa? 🍷
