Confidently helming his family’s domaine now in its sixth generation, Jean-Etienne Chermette reminded us this week that the entirety of their wide Beaujolais offerings are well suited for enjoyable drinking all year round. From sparkling Chardonnay and refreshing rosé to structured, ripe fruited reds, value and natural wine-making continue to define the traditional Beaujolais wines of .
The 2025 Rosé and Beaujolais Blanc - both rarities in the region - are ideally grown on the clay limestone soils of Pierres-Dorées to impart freshness and balance.
Firmly holding court with their granitic terroir are the Cru cuvées: Fleurie, the Queen of the Crus whose delicate softness in the ‘Poncié’ is flanked by the power of ‘Les Garants’; Moulin-a-Vent, the King as embodied by the structure and age-worthiness of ‘Trois Roches’, and Brouilly, the blue-granite and nuanced Prince shining in the classic 2024 vintage of ‘Pierreux.’
Lastly the hallmark, the Origine Vieilles Vignes, whose splashy entrance in the Parisian wine bar scene in the ‘80s underscores what is true today: that throwback Beaujolais—low yields on old vines, natural ripeness, hand harvesting, indigenous yeasts, semi-carbonic fermentation with minimal intervention and sulfites— never goes out of style.
Thank you so much to Inter Beaujolais and all our retail and restaurant friends who made this Tour de Gamay a memorable one.
Until next time !
