We’re all in on Oregon in general, but we were blown away by the unique and wonderful wines of Golden Cluster, a rare domestic producer in the amazing portfolio of GK Selections. Founder Jeff Vejr will join us on the mezzanine at 6pm on Wednesday, June 11 to debut these very special wines. Link in bio!
Years ago on a vineyard tour with Barnaby Tuttle of Teutonic Wine Company, Jeff was brought to the David Hill Vineyard & Winery in Forest Grove, Oregon to see the “old-vine” Sylvaner and Chasselas that Barnaby sourced. While walking the vineyard, Mr. Vejr noticed some huge vines and inquired as to what they were. The answer was Semillon––as fate would have it, Jeff’s first white wine love. To know that one of the oldest vineyards in Oregon had 48-year-old Semillon vines in it was a shock to him. Planted by Charles Coury, one of the Willamette Valley’s founding growers, it inspired Jeff to start the Golden Cluster project and imagine an alternative view of Oregon beyond Pinot Noir dominance.
We’ll taste Jeff’s Semillon, Chardonnay (a favorite of ours from a multi-clone field blend), Gamay, Syrah and Cabernet Franc in this fascinating class spotlighting an exciting new producer working with some very old vines.
Jeff’s work with these more obscure varieties allows him to source fruit from incredible old vineyards and perform painstakingly slow elevages, all while providing incredible value. Jeff will join us on the mezzanine at 6pm on Wednesday, June 11 to debut these very special wines.
