Punk Island comes but once a year and it is a day that means so much to me. Every ounce of physical pain, exhaustion, and exasperation leading up to the fest is so so worth it when I get to see my friends, meet new amazing people, hear bands I love, and get excited to check out new ones I never knew about but that my fellow organizers brought to the table.
Proud of the fest we had this year, our biggest EVER in terms of bands and also in terms of what else we had there for the community- in particular the skill shares and harm reduction resources. These things matter just as much as the music so thank you to every group that came out to educate folks and thank you to all the bands who played, vendors who shared their work/art, and every volunteer who sweated it out with us.
If I can rally myself a bit more, I'll write up more soon, but I have to run out to shoot yet another thing tonight hahahaha, I don't know how to stop! But once I've done that and cleared my mind a bit (and taken care of some housekeeping as well) I'll write up some more feelings and specific thanks for the LEGENDS that made my stage the success it was this year.
In the meantime, enjoy the pics in BrooklynVegan punks, if you'd like to post anything, I prefer you NOT screenshot stuff (makes it look like s**t and thusly ME look like a hack hahaha) so just reach out and I'm happy to send you a copy of the photo. Please tag/link my IG handle (can you guess what it is??? @ hoosatron hahahaha) on anything you post!
The annual free, all-ages, all-DIY punk fest brought nearly 100 bands to NYC's Randall's Island on Saturday.
