Spencer & Lynn Wine and Spirit Merchants

Spencer & Lynn Wine and Spirit Merchants Our focus are the producers - brewers, distillers, or winemakers - who are incredibly passionate abou My wife and I founded Spencer & Lynn in March of 2020.

Our dream was to open a wine shop that we would want to shop at. Our focus are the producers, the people behind the glossy veneer of alcohol sales. These producers, whether they are brewers, distillers, or winemakers, are people who are incredibly passionate about what they are creating. We take it one step further and work with producers that are proponents of organic / natural production. The re

ason for this is because we fully believe this is only way forward for the world of wine, beer, and spirits. When you walk into our stores you will probably not recognize many of the brands. There are not small cards with scores below each wine, or descriptors written by a magazine. Most of our producers represented in the stores are small (beyond small for some). They do not produce much wine because they only produce what they grow and make themselves. Our staff sets us apart, because we are lucky to have amazing professionals in the store each day to help you with virtually any needs in the world of beverages. They, like us, are incredibly passionate about the products we sell and why we choose them. Thankfully all of us involved, drink wine, drink wine with food, and love to talk about it. The next time you’re in the shop, or you spot him zipping around the Mystic harbor aboard Stormdog 2 (RIP Stormdog 1), please give our beloved Ross Morin a big ol’ round of applause.

Ross Passed His WSET Level 3 Exam. WITH FRIGGIN’ MERIT. 🍾👏

Because Ross is a truly determined nut, he skipped WSET Levels 1 and 2 entirely and dove headfirst into Level 3, one of the most challenging and comprehensive wine qualifications out there.
When Ross joined us at Spencer & Lynn two years ago, working just one day a week, he was the first to admit that he knew very little about wine. Okay, nothing about wine. What he did have was an enormous amount of curiosity, an eagerness to learn and a willingness to put in the work.

And put in the work he did.

Two years later:
🍷 Level 3 Award in Wines, Tasting: Pass with Merit
🍷 Level 3 Award in Wines, Theory: Pass with Distinction

That is a truly incredible achievement, and we could not be more proud of him.

Congratulations, Ross. We love ya, buddy and are so proud of you. ❤️

We love grower Champagne here at Spencer & Lynn, and Special Club? This is the best of the best. Pretty damn special. 🥂

Quick history, let’s get down to brass tacks. In 1971, twelve grower families formed the Club de Viticulteurs Champenois (founders like Paul Bara, Gaston Chiquet and Pierre Gimonnet among them) to prove that Champagne grown and made by the same hands could stand toe to toe with the big houses trying to steal the show. They wanted a shared standard of excellence, on their own terms. Renamed the Club Trésors de Champagne in 1999, it’s still tiny today, just 25 growers, the OG pros and the newcomers alike. 🍇

Each February the members taste the past vintage and vote, unanimously, on whether it’s even worth declaring. If it is, a panel tastes the still wines blind and cuts what doesn’t measure up. Three years later they taste again, blind, and only the wines that pass by unanimous vote earn the Club’s own bottle, embossed and based on an eighteenth century design. Wines do get rejected. No pass, no bottle.

Huge love to the importers who chase these down and get them to CT, because they love Champagne as much as we do. We’re ❤️ you, Transatlantic Bubbles and Skurnik Wines & Spirits. 🙌

Three we’re popping right now 👇

🍾 2018 Grongnet Spécial Club. Cécile Grongnet’s fifth generation estate in Étoges. 55% Pinot Noir, 45% Chardonnay, no malo. Broad, vinous and generous, all orchard fruit, citrus and brioche.

🍾 2015 Grongnet Spécial Club, in Jeroboam. A JEROBOAM Their finest 2015 and three glorious liters of it. Still 55% Pinot Noir, 45% Chardonnay, still friggin delicious

🥂 2018 A. Margaine Spécial Club Blanc de Blancs. Arnaud and Mathilde Margaine in Villers-Marmery, an island of Chardonnay in a sea of Pinot Noir. Don’t sleep on this one: bright, chalky and saline, snappy lemon, green apple and absolutely incredible.

Come by, say 👋 and grab one (or all three)! Have you heard about boat delivery at S&L?

(🖤 Rest in peace, Lou)

Giovanna Morganti’s Incredible Tuscan Wines Are Here!

Giovanna Morganti’s story begins with her father, Enzo, an OG Tuscan oenologist who believed in the region’s native grapes long before they came back into fashion. Giovanna studied oenology and, in the mid-1980s, joined San Felice’s ambitious project to collect and plant roughly 300 traditional Tuscan varieties gathered from old vineyards.
When Enzo gave her a small olive farm in San Felice, just north of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Giovanna popped off and planted the grapes she had come to believe in most: Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Foglia Tonda, Mammolo, and Prugnolo. That farm became Podere Le Boncie, and the first vintage of Le Trame followed in 1990.

Giovanna inherited a deep respect for the work, then made it entirely her own. She farms according to biodynamic principles, harvests by hand, ferments in open wooden vats, and gives the wines time in seasoned cask and bottle. Traditional,oh no doubt BUT never nostalgic. The point is clarity: letting the grapes, the vineyards, and the place come through.

2024 CINQUE
The name Cinque nods to the five native red varieties grown at Le Boncie; the blend shifts with the vintage. From younger estate vines and a nearby parcel in Villa a Sesta, the 2024 is the brightest and most immediate of the three—supple, lifted, and finely structured, with a Burgundian sense of elegance and a distinctly Tuscan character.

2023 LE TRAME
The heart of the estate, from the densely planted home vineyard. Mostly Sangiovese with small amounts of old local varieties, the 2023 is deeper and more structured, with mineral drive, grip, and quiet power.

2023 CHIESAMONTI
From a separate 1.3-hectare parcel beside San Felice, where the soils are stonier and lower in clay. Nearly all Sangiovese with a touch of Canaiolo, the 2023 is the silkiest and most high toned of the trio—precise, finely drawn, and long.

Three distinct wines, one clear point of view, and a producer we’re very happy to share. Come snag a bottle when you can!
