POV: You just realized it’s Monday and gas isn’t 25 cents anymore ⛽😅

At least Mayberry still has plenty of charm, friendly faces, and vintage vibes to help get the week started. 🚘☀️

One of North Carolina's most nostalgic landmarks, Wally’s Service Station is a real-life time capsule that feels like walking straight into a classic television set. Located in Mount Airy...the hometown of legendary actor Andy Griffith...this old building served as the direct inspiration for the famous garage where Gomer and Goober Pyle worked on The Andy Griffith Show. The station was originally built back in 1937. Long before he became a Hollywood star, a young Andy Griffith used to walk to this exact spot to buy snacks and cold sodas. While it used to fill up gas tanks as a real Gulf and Esso station over the decades, it was completely renovated in 2001 to celebrate its iconic television history.

Today, you cannot buy gasoline here, but you can experience pure, small-town Americana. The exterior remains perfectly preserved in its original condition, featuring its vintage garage doors and old-school gas pumps. Visitors are encouraged to grab a cold grape Nehi soda and relax in a wooden rocking chair right on the front porch. Inside, the garage has been transformed into a charming gift shop packed with old-fashioned candy and Mayberry memorabilia. Right next door, fans can explore a meticulously detailed replica of the Mayberry Courthouse. You can sit right at Sheriff Andy Taylor’s desk, answer the vintage wall telephone, or step inside Otis’s famous jail cell for a fun photo. Best of all, the station serves as the headquarters for the Mayberry Squad Car Tours. Guests can climb into a fleet of real, vintage 1960s Ford Galaxie police cars to cruise around town while the driver sounds the siren.
