⚠️ WEATHER ALERT: STAY IN IF YOU CAN
As the strongest bands of rain associated with what was Tropical Storm Arthur move across our area, residents should prepare for periods of intense rainfall, gusty winds, reduced visibility, and rapidly changing road conditions.
Travel may become hazardous, especially during the heaviest downpours. If you do not need to be on the road, consider delaying travel until conditions improve. Staying off the roads not only protects you and your family, but also helps reduce traffic for emergency responders and essential personnel who may need to reach areas impacted by flooding.
Remember that flooding can occur quickly, even in areas that do not typically experience high water. Roads that appear passable may be hiding deeper water, washed-out shoulders, or other hazards.
As rainfall continues, area rivers, creeks, bayous, and drainage systems will begin to respond. While river levels may not rise immediately, prolonged heavy rain can cause waterways to swell over the coming hours and days. Residents living near rivers, streams, and flood-prone areas should closely monitor conditions and be prepared for changing water levels.
