By the Sea Productions is teaming up with The Bay Theater for a special screening of the 1937 film classic, Stage Door starring Hollywood legends Katharine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Lucille Ball, and more. The film follows an ensemble of aspiring actresses pursuing their Broadway dreams.

As a proud supporter of By The Sea Productions, The Savory Palette will be providing refreshments before the movie begins. Snacks are included in your ticket price. Wine and Ginger Beer will be available for purchase.

Event Details: September 14, 2026
4:30 PM - mix and mingle with the BTSP Board, actors, and directors.
5:30 PM - movie begins

Tickets are $25 each, or 2 for $45. All proceeds directly benefit BTSP. Help us celebrate 10 years of live theater in Morro Bay.

Standing the Test of Time

Today at The Savory Palette we decided to take a chance and open some truly unexpected treasures: Beckmen Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc vintages from 1999, 2003, 2010, and 2012. Yes…you read it right. White wines, resting in bottles for 14–27 years!

The biggest surprise of the day? The 1999 needed about 15–20 minutes to fully wake up, but once it did, it was absolutely gorgeous. Bright Meyer lemon notes, beautiful acidity, and incredible flavor that was fresh and alive after all these years. And, it lasted throughout the evening! We opened it around 3:30 and I took my last sip at 9:00. A testament to really great winemakers.

The 2003 and newer vintages each had their own personality too, showing hints of malt, caramel, and butterscotch — remarkably enjoyable for wines of this age.

But in the end, the winner was clear: the 1999 Purisima Mountain Vineyard. A reminder that sometimes patience pays off in the most delicious way.

This bottle of Ulloa Cellars Pinot Blanc was gifted to me a couple of years ago. As usual, I laid it down thinking I would drink it soon. Well, tonight I finally opened it and shared it with friends. We were concerned that I had waited too long. It is a 2021 after all! But with a little air, the mustiness of an aging wine dissipated and we thoroughly enjoyed a beautiful, bright, balanced Pinot Blanc. Well done Nancy Ulloa! 👏👏👏
