Beautiful Finger Lakes: Buttonwood Grove & Six Eighty Cellars from our Tasting Last Evening

Last evening, we hosted the exceptional wines of Buttonwood Grove Winery and Six Eighty Cellars! We took a deep dive into two of the Finger Lakes' most innovative producers, both situated on the scenic western shores of Cayuga Lake. The trip was so successful we're are currently sold out of a few wines that come back in stock in 2 weeks!

We were thrilled to have proprietor and winegrower David Pittard as our guest host and speaker. David is a champion of terroir-driven expressions and a leader in the region’s evolving viticulture.

The Dry Riesling 2023 was a classic expression of the Finger Lakes, linear, filigreed, fresh with citrus fruit and rinds, with saline and mineral nuances. The Riesling, The Pinot-Gewurz Co-Ferment, Buttonwood Chard, and the still Cabernet Franc were the most popular sales of the evening, though everyone picked up most wines across the range. You just can't beat the deal on these prices! The Cabernet Franc Pet-Nat was a big surprise for most as it was not something that you see often but it works SO well in this bottling. I have had Cab Franc sparkling before from other parts of the world and like here, this has a fuller mouthfeel from the fuller bodied grapes. Both Chardonnays were excellent, the 680 Cellars with some used larger format barrels and cement tanks, the Buttonwood only with only steel and no malolactic. Both clearly chardonnay, but different expression that delivered and as expected everyone had one favorite over the other as the styles were so different. The Co-Ferment of Pinot Noir + Gewurztraminer was also another peculiar wine everyone liked and almost everyone purchased. It was fun and complex, one of those geeky fun wines that is just purely delicious and fun to sniff and sip! Lastly, the Cabernet Franc, was so, so, so pretty, it was close but it was my favorite of the evening. A ringer for a great Loire Valley Chinon or Bourgueil, this is a MUST BUY for Cab Franc fans!
