"Cocktail Katie," our Moore-based Mixologist in Residence, brings us another recipe this week that is a true staple in the world of mixed drinks:

A classic Martini.

"A legendary cocktail with lots of lore associated with it.
It's really a rather simple drink.
For the classic martini, 4 parts dry gin to one part dry vermouth.
In my case, 2oz Bombay dry gin and 1/2oz Martini & Rossi dry vermouth.

I prefer mine shaken, which allows a few ice chips to float in the drink when it is strained into a chilled cocktail glass. According to what I've read, it's called 'making it skate.'

I also like olives. One article I read said you must have an uneven number of olives to garnish your Martini, usually one or three. An even number is supposedly bad luck. So, here's to uneven olives and even luckier days to follow!

She's got an easy one to start, and it's perfect for the warmer weather...

Cocktail Katie says,
"Here's a classic cocktail that is refreshing and comforting and also very simple to make.
The 'Gin & Tonic':
All you need is a shot of your favorite gin, a decent tonic water, and a slice of lime. Combine in a rocks glass with ice, and there you go. Bombay London Dry Gin is my favorite for most things, but for the gin and tonic, I like the slightly more herbal Bombay Sapphire."

Basic Recipe:
Gin: 2 oz
Tonic Water: 4 oz to 6 oz
Garnish: 1 fresh lime wedge
Ice: Large, solid ice cubes

Tips & Tricks
Chill the glass: Place a highball glass in the freezer for a few minutes before serving.
Add ice: Fill the chilled glass to the brim with large ice cubes.
Pour the gin: Measure 2 oz of gin and pour it directly over the ice.
Add tonic: Slowly pour the premium tonic water down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation.
Garnish: Squeeze a fresh lime wedge into the drink, drop it in, and give it a brief stir.
