It’s fall, and the vendemmia (harvest) is in full swing in the real mount Etna vineyards! The higher elevation vineyards on the slopes, as is true across the w**e growing world, pick later as the grapes need more time to ripen and develop their sugar content in the cooler temps, extending far into October for picking (although climate change is generally moved up the timetable regardless of region)

And here in the miniature Etna on valley road, our newly renovated trains and new engines/gondola cars are hard at work hauling carricante (white Etna grape) bunches to the cantina!

The other ones: Old friends in Syrah (from Morocco and Croatia). Bibich CRNO and Alan graillot’s syrahs are the kind of fun but elegant w**es I start turning towards this time of year. Some or many of you may be familiar, but if I learned one thing especially these past few months for a lot of reasons , there’s so much to gain from a critical retasting of what you think you understand.

Highlighting one w**e in particular as we head into the cooler season. Chilean w**emaker Roberto Henriquez’s w**es from the still-underrated Bio Bio valley are the definition of accessible complexity and ultimate food friendliness…his skin-contact white Rivera del Notro Blanco should appeal to everyone in our little gem of a BYOB neighborhood.

The upper montclair sidewalk sale is this Saturday sept 19th! This our little downtown’s signature event, and it is always so much fun. All the businesses participate with a fun backdrop of music and events. We’ll be sampling w**e and cheese, and the newly improved Etna trains will be running all day for the kids. Weather looks gorgeous all day. Hope to see you there!

Yes, the work is done, and now we have vintage 70s and 80s engines on separate tracks running around our mount Etna model, (soon to have w**e carriage cars as well) , running along new figurines and scenery, new bridges and a new autostrada. Grazi a Mille to Albert, our train expert, for helping put this all together and problem solving it all. Come by and check it out!

Huge renovation and upgrades coming to the iconic grape collective Mt. Etna train! Albert, our excellent train expert, has been hard at work carefully wiring and laying down a second track that cuts into the mountain and will allow us to get a ‘w**e train’ on soon.

It’s no mystery that much of the beauty of drinking w**e lies in the incredibly diverse set of regions, terroirs, and producers that are integrated with its culture. The endless joy of w**e geography has always driven me (Ari) to push forward in the industry throughout the highs and the lows I’ve experienced working in it. And at GC, we don’t necessarily go hunting for far-flung w**e regions for novelty’s sake, but if bringing in a Bulgarian Bordeaux blend , as one example, shakes someone’s perception up a bit, expands a drinking horizon, and inspires the discovery of a new favorite bottle, we’d say it’s well worth it!

Master cheesemonger Everett stopped in again to help bring in some new cheeses, do a little cutting, and sharpen the cheese case’s look- thank you Everett! We got some beautiful soft, semi hard and hard cheeses, and some great new saucisson, for you to try! Don’t miss Ubriacone (pictured) an exceptional Italian “drunken” cow’s milk cheese created by Sergio Moro, featuring a sharp, fruity aroma, purple-streaked interior, and a rich nutty flavor with a bright w**e finish.
