Nearly 25 years after a devastating and horrific murder in the early 2000s, questions still arise of why?
Beautiful souls gone but never forgotten.
In Memory of Janice & Alyssa Owen.
On February 12, 2002, Janice had just clocked out from her shift at Riverdell Care Center in Boonville, MO and headed home to meet her children after school.
Her daughter arrived home perusal expecting a normal day. Janiceโs mother, Frances arrived as any other day to see her daughter and her children, only to walk into an empty home, nothing unusual. Frances left a note for Janice to call her as soon as possible.
The next morning workers from a saw mill found the lifeless body of Alyssa near Fayette on the side of a rural road.
An autopsy performed revealed disturbing and gruesome details of the death Alyssa. The young victim was brutalized, sexually assaulted and suffocated before being dumbed ok the side of the road.
Janice was missing, no show at worked and not present at home. Suspicion arose.
Janice was recalled as a great mother and adored her daughter, those close to her knew Janice would never hurt Alyssa.
6 weeks later in March of 2002, Janice was found hidden in a creek bed, 12 miles north of Boonville. An autopsy found that she also was suffocated around the same time of her daughter.
A few months went by before any information was discovered regarding the murders of Janice and Alyssa.
June 2002 โ A tip was received that 25 year old Angela Mize and her 18 year old husband at that time had hinted about their involvement in the murders.
The couple lived in Glasgow at the time, Angela was also employed at Riverdell Care Center.
Angela has broke down and claimed that she was a witness to murders and Eric acted alone. After more questioning, Angela as admitted she was involved as well.
Officers attempted to pull over Eric Mize before he led law enforcement on a chase to his relatives home, where he barricaded himself in the home, threading him end his life. Took officers several hours to retrieve Eric.
During a search of the couples home, they found multiple items of Janice and Alyssa, including a button from Alyssaโs dress and buckles from her shoes.
The couple admitted to the murders as well only Sexually Assaulted Alyssa for sexual gratification before killing both her and Janice.
Alyssa and Eric Mize both pleaded guilty to two counts of 1st Degree Murder and were sentenced to life in Prison with no possibility of parole.
The Owen family members requested the sentenced as they didnโt want to endure the trauma of a trial and wanted the ordeal over as quickly as possible, as trials prolong for years.
Angela is spending the rest of her life at the Chillicothe Correction Center and Eric at Jefferson City.
