I love-hate oxymorons. Sorta like Xmas lights on plastic palm trees in June.
Way high up in the Italian Alps is the Val d'Aosta, where they speak French, is the winemaker GrosJean(big John). There is a sub region called Torrette. The red grape from this region is Petit Rouge. The grape produces a dry red wine that is briliant-boring, and simple-complex .
When sipoed without food it's kinda simple tasting but really well made wine. Then with food, and depending what you're eating, all sorts of wonderful flavors come out. It can be fruity, spicy, earthy, floral and be a zillion other taste and flavor sensations. You go back and sip it without food and the genie goes back in the bottle. Val d'Aosta is home to some of Italy's best cheese, and this a great cheese red wine. $29.99 and no, I haven't had it with jumbo shrimp......yet
