We saved the best for last.

Meet Orlando. Criminal defense attorney. State and federal. Twenty three years in Miami courtrooms. Husband. Father of three boys. And one of The Barrel’s most devoted regulars.

It started once every couple of weeks with a core group of friends. Then once a week. Then twice a week. Then somewhere along the way Orlando looked up and realized he was here every single day.

Not because he had to be. Because he wanted to be.

He said something in this interview that we have not been able to stop thinking about since.

In a world where we are constantly connected online, we are really not connected as people. And this is a place where we come and connect as human beings.

That is not a review of a cigar lounge. That is a statement about what is missing in the world and where you can find it.

His cigar right now is the Plasencia Alma Fuerte. The green Plasencia. Been smoking it heavily lately. The Padron Aniversario gets a mention too because Orlando knows his ci**rs as well as he knows a courtroom.

The Dunbarton Mi Querida. We call it the Triki Traka at The Barrel. Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. Nicaraguan binder and filler. This is not just this week’s pick. This is the cigar I smoke every single day. At least once. Sometimes more.

I love everything about it. The people who make it. The people who sell it. The way it smokes. And most importantly what happens when you pair it with a good coffee.

The last two months at The Barrel. And we are just getting started.

Tastings that changed the way people think about spirits. Ci**rs that deserved more than one conversation. Locker Stories that reminded us why we built this place. The Slow Burn series that proved Miami has stories worth telling. Sports nights that made weekdays feel like weekends. Live music that turned strangers into regulars. And a community that keeps showing up and making The Barrel what it is.

It has been an extraordinary couple of months.

But the best night of the year is still ahead.

Halloween at The Barrel is one week away and we are pulling out all the stops.

Here is what you need to know.

The party starts at 7:30 PM. No reservations. First come first served. Come in costume because the best costume of the night wins a one year membership to The Barrel. There will be second and third place prizes too. Specialty Halloween cocktails all evening. And Halloween surprises we are keeping close until the night arrives.

Meet Chuck Walls. Everyone calls him Chuck. His official title is Vice President of Player Personnel for the Philadelphia Eagles. He oversees college scouting, pro scouting and player acquisition for one of the most storied franchises in the NFL.

In other words, Chuck finds talent for a living.

And when he walks into Smoke and Barrel he recognizes it immediately.

He said the people make any environment and that double counts here. The cigar selection. The drink selection. The bartenders who actually know what they are talking about. A space that works for date night, for unwinding, for working during the day. Chuck called it versatile and he meant it as a compliment.

His cigar of choice is the Liga Privada No. 9. His go to. His staple. The one his friends joke him about because no matter what else is on the menu Chuck is always going back to the Liga Nine. Tequila Ocho met Domus. A suit tailor was taking custom measurements in the corner. And somewhere in the middle of all of it someone brought out caviar.

Caviar. At a cigar lounge. On a Wednesday.

Only at The Barrel.

Meet Kaylin Bosques. Attorney. Founder of Bosques Law Firm. Probate, guardianship, estate planning and family law.

And the only person in the history of The Barrel who studied for the bar exam at The Bar.

Let that sink in.

She came to Smoke and Barrel when she was still preparing for one of the hardest exams of her life. She sat at the bar with her laptop. She studied. She ordered her coffee. She found her focus in a cigar lounge in Dadeland.

And then she passed.

Then she became an attorney. Then she opened her own firm. And through every single milestone The Barrel was there.

She said it herself. Things have just come full circle here at Smoke and Barrel.

From bar exam to bar member. From student to attorney to founder. All of it happening in the same room where she first sat down and decided she was going to make it.

Her cigar of choice is the Davidoff Late Hour from the Churchill line. A beautiful cigar that she always comes back to no matter what else she is rotating through.

The Slow Burn. Episode 6. The Deals Made in The Barrel.

Jorge grew up in Hialeah. Son of a Cuban immigrant. Went to Saint Timothy and Christopher Columbus. Dropped out of college to chase real estate.

And before you ask, yes there was a girl involved. And coffee. And air conditioning. In a construction site sales office. Jorge took one look and said construction is not for me.

Thirty something years later he is one of the most connected real estate professionals in Miami. And somewhere along the way he walked into Smoke and Barrel and had an idea that changed how he runs his entire business.

He started bringing his agents here. Then he did something most people would never consider. He invited his competitors.

His reasoning was simple and brilliant. When you sit down and smoke a stick for an hour and a half you are forced to put your phone down. You are forced to have a real conversation. The guard comes down. The status disappears. And suddenly his agents and his competitors are talking real estate, sharing answers and building something that the internet could never replicate.

A community.

Jorge said something that stopped us cold. Here people drop their guard, drop their status and everybody is the same.

That is not a cigar lounge observation. That is a philosophy.
