Don’t forget to come by the Wea Market for all your fishing gear needs and snacks! The Meeteetse Inn, Oasis, and several VRBOs are great options if you need a place to stay. Check out the antique stores and amazing art gallery (if it’s closed peak in the windows, it’s amazing!).

We love the fishing derby and hate that the weather hasn’t cooperated. While this is a hit for business and a disappointment things could always be worse.

We pray for some moisture and colder temps to lessen the fire danger and help out the farmers and ranchers in our area in the coming year.

‼️Due to increased forecasted temps leading into the 2026 Ice Fishing Derby, it has been decided to cancel the event‼️
One week ago when we announced postponing the Derby, extended forecast temps were favorable to hold out hope that ice on the Sunshine Reservoirs could recover from the recent warmer weather. Unfortunately the forecast now shows warmer temps that we do not believe will be low enough to secure the banks, from a large tournament perspective.

🎣If you don't know, this is a very hard hit for our community. The Ice Fishing Derby is Discover Meeteete's largest fundraiser of the year, and it drives essential traffic to our local, small businesses. It allows us to sustain a healthy community through the tough winter months, and positions our non-profit organization to keep doing what we do. The decision to cancel involves many folks, & is not made lightly.

❣ If you have rooms booked, plans to be in the area anyhow, or just want to escape cabin fever, we invite you to grab your loved ones and visit during Valentine's Day weekend. The Elkhorn Bar & Grill, the Meeteetse Chocolatier, the Cowboy Bar & Cafe, and the Meeteetse Meat Company will all be open and/or hosting Valentine's specials. If you can, keep your reservations, & come check out the reservoirs on your own. Depending on the weather, bank fishing and certain spots for ice fishing are still possible.

🌊Discover Meeteetse staff are currently looking into the option of hosting an open water derby in the spring. Stay tuned to see if this develops.

Good solid ice on upper!

There is about 5” of ice on the lower. The last report I have on the upper is also 5” but that was before our latest cold spell so probably a little thicker now! The derby is set for Feb 13-15th. Hope to see you all there!
