Robert Clay Vineyards

Robert Clay Vineyards Award-winning Estate Winery & Vineyard in the heart of the Texas Hill Country We are advocates of time and patience.

It's a well-known fact that wines made from the highest quality fruit require a lot less wine "making", therefore our goal at Robert Clay Vineyards is to focus on wine-growing so that our wines can express themselves without having to be manipulated in our winery. To accomplish this we only use estate-grown fruit that we have complete control of from pruning to harvest--we control the quality, the

refore we control how much wine "making" has to happen before the fruit ever comes into our winery. For Robert Clay Vineyards, extended aging is fundamental to creating wines that are balanced, stable, and can be bottled without fining or filtering. Robert Clay Vineyards is dedicated to making wines of personality and individual character. Unmanipulated, aged wines full of expression and as healthy as they can be for you and your family.

🌿 So God Made a Winegrower. 🍇

Every vine, every cluster—hand-tended. My father and I out here, season after season, pruning, tying, mending, picking. No shortcuts. No big crews. Just us and the land.

It’s not just farming. It’s carrying forward something sacred. A father-son legacy, rooted in respect for the vine and the patience to let nature lead.

Our 2015 Merlot marks the first time we took in the fruit for ourselves — making our first true estate wine, made in true winery quantity. A bold step, a young winemaker’s dream realized. Aged 26 months in French oak, this wine represents the turning point, the year it all began.

2017 Touriga Nacional Grand Reserve
93 Points – James Suckling

The 2017 Touriga Nacional Grand Reserve is the first commercial planting of this legendary Portuguese variety in the state of Texas, grown entirely on our estate vineyard.

Aged 52 months in French oak, this wine is a bold, powerful expression of Touriga Nacional, benefiting from a warm, dry growing season and showcasing deep spice, plum, and macerated cherry flavors with subtle oak and cedar accents. It’s a beautifully mature and mellow red that speaks of place, patience, and purpose.

🚹Mason County Courthouse Arson Case- UnraveledđŸ•”ïž

You thought you knew everything about this case!

Intriguing interview with Brandy and Chris Diamond of Texas Wine and True Crime

A special thanks to Tonya Ahlschwede and Havana Schmidt for guiding us through the intricate details of the Mason County Courthouse arson case.

On February 4, 2021, the historic Mason County Courthouse, built in 1909, was severely damaged by a fire determined to be arson. The fire was part of a series of deliberate acts, including an occupied residence also set ablaze that night. Nicholas Miller was arrested and found guilty of these crimes, with evidence showing the use of ignitable liquids at the scenes. He faced multiple charges including arson, burglary, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and firearm possession.

🎧Tune in to hear Tonya and Havana’s detailed walkthrough of the events, investigation, and aftermath of this case.

On April 7th, a hard freeze rolled through the Hill Country and hit us at Robert Clay Vineyards with devastating force. It wiped out nearly all of our blocks—and we lost our entire Merlot.

This wasn’t just a late frost—it was a true phenomenon. Temperatures dropped so quickly and deeply in the night that even a helicopter wouldn’t have helped. There was nothing we could do but watch and pray.

Farming teaches resilience, but days like this hit deep. We’re leaning on faith, grit, and the long view. Thanks to everyone reaching out with kind words—we feel it and we’re grateful.
