Tasted through the lineup with Tom from recently and the 2025 L’Orange was one of the wines I kept going back to.

There’s a little floral lift from the Gewürztraminer, great pithy texture, and just enough acidity to keep everything feeling bright and snappy. This is just a ridiculously drinkable skin contact wine that feels perfect for this stretch of spring weather.

More than anything, it’s the kind of bottle that just puts you in a good mood.

Manuel Moldes has quickly become one of the reference points for serious Albariño in Rías Baixas. His wines come from old vineyards in Val do Salnés, planted close enough to the Atlantic that you can practically feel the salt spray in the glass.

Afelio may sit at the front of the lineup, but there’s nothing “entry level” about it. Honestly, it’s one of the best values Manuel Moldes makes. The fruit comes from parcels averaging over 50 years old, planted across granite and schist soils at varying elevations and exposures, giving the wine both sharp mineral drive and real texture. Fermentation and aging happen in a mix of steel and older French oak, which keeps the wine precise while adding just enough weight underneath all that energy.

La Rogerie is a Champagne project worth paying attention to.

Built by François Petit (Avize) and Justine Boxler (Alsace), this is a small, focused domaine working with a handful of organically farmed parcels in Avize. Everything is done with intention, from horse plowing and low yields in the vineyard to long lees aging and low dosage in the cellar.

These are Champagnes shaped by chalk and restraint. Firm structure, saline lift, and a quiet, linear energy that opens slowly with air and time. Beautifully built wines that keep revealing more the longer you sit with them.

Each release feels more confident, more dialed in — which makes it easy to understand why William Kelley said, “I’m convinced La Rogerie is set for overnight stardom.”
