Perhaps no measurement in ci**rs is more objective.
And no preference more personal.
A ring gauge is simply the diameter of a cigar, measured in sixty-fourths of an inch.
A 42 ring gauge is a fact.
A 60 ring gauge is a fact.
But which one is "best"?
That answer belongs to the smoker.
Interestingly, what we consider large has changed dramatically over time. During much of the twentieth century, a 50-ring cigar was considered substantial, and many classic formats lived comfortably in the upper 30s and 40s.
In recent decades, however, larger formats have become increasingly popular, making 60-ring gauge and larger ci**rs commonplace.
Ultimately, ring gauge is not a matter of right and wrong.
It is a matter of reference and preference.
And the perfect ring gauge is the one that feels right in your hand and mouth.
