UPCOMING FIRE TOWER TRAIL CLOSURES DUE TO HUNTING SEASON:

Some fire tower trails are closed during hunting season. The dates below are inclusive. Due to easements with the landowners, the closure dates listed below may be different from the dates listed on the New York State Department of
Environmental Conservation (DEC) website.

*Stillwater Mountain: October 13 through December 20, 2026. Stillwater Mountain hunting season is always the second Tuesday of October through December 20.

*Swede Mountain: September 11 through December 15, 2026

*Spruce Mountain: October 24 through December 6, 2026
Please note that the trail to Spruce Mountain is open, however the tower is closed due to a structural issue. The Fire Tower Challenge committee recommends that you save this tower for when the repairs are made since there is are no views unless you climb the tower.

SPECIAL NOTE GORE MOUNTAIN: An announcement will be made later in the year on the annual closing of the Gore Mountain Fire Tower for the 2026/27 ski season due to ORDA rules and operations.

The Adirondack Rail Trail is for everyone to enjoy! We’re thrilled that Cycling Without Age - Adirondack Coast is able to again offer piloted trishaw rides, leaving from the Saranac Lake Depot.
