Louisville Laser Works had a sad day today. 😢 There are much worse things, but it was a sad day.
A lovely bride to be brought us a black onyx bracelet to have engraved for her wedding this weekend. We ran a test mark on a small bead on the end of the bracelet and everything looked good.
We set things up to go ahead and run the main engraving on the larger beads. The first two beads went well, but midway thought the third bead, it split right in half and fell away from the bracelet. My stomach sank instantly. 😭
As the other two beads cooled they turned an iridescent silver and the areas around the engraving began to flake off.
We find a lot of joy in being able to help people celebrate the special moments in their lives and show other folks how special they are to them. To mess up a beautiful, thoughtful gift a few days before a wedding is heartbreaking.
This is one of the main reasons most engravers will not touch items customers bring in. For now we’re going to keep taking these risks because we’ve seen how much joy our services can bring to our customers. This one was a fail for sure, but the risk is worth it far more often than not.
As I often say, we’re willing to take as much risk as our customers are. If this was your bracelet, we’re so sorry! But we learned a valuable lesson today… don’t attempt to engrave black onyx with a laser!
