ASBURY PARK CASINO:

If you heard that the Casino building was going to be torn down soon, you heard wrong. Owners of the structure and Asbury Park redeveloper Madison Marquette, would need approval from NJ Dept. of Environmental Protection and the City to do so. That’s not happening- anytime soon anyway.

However, bulldozers arrived on Thursday to create a beach path around the Casino, in hopes of allowing pedestrians to bypass the dilapidated and currently closed structure to get between the city and Ocean Grove.

Currently, the only way to get back and forth is the Wesley Lake footbridge between Asbury and Ocean Grove, which close each night at 12am or going to Bond St.

EATONTOWN: WHOLE( hyphen gone now) FOODS COMING TO MONMOUTH MALL:

Whole Foods has reportedly signed a lease with Kushner Co. to take over the Barnes And Noble Book Store spot. Plans call for relocating the book store to another section of the mall and building out the current structure to accommodate Whole Foods.

This is another part of the redevelopment plan for the Mall which was originally built in 1958 on farmland as Monmouth Shopping Center. It was renovated and enclosed in 1975.

Also as part of the plan, JCPenney, which is closed, will be torn down as the parking garage on the southern end of the Mall was. A 4-story, RWJBarnabas Health Family Care & Wellness was recently built along side the torn down garage.

Plans also call for around 1000 residential apartments.

The mall plans are 8 years in the making and have come up against numerous complaints and rejections due to the extent of the size of the expansion. Some plans have been scrapped and new ones introduced over that time, however Kushner Co. is still moving forward to reinvent the whole property.

Amazon, which owns Whole Foods, was reportedly opening an Amazon Fresh where the old Toys R Us was on Rte 35 and Wyckoff Rd. Eatontown, however they are on hold for opening more of those stores and are actually closing some.

NEPTUNE: PERSON WHO ABANDONED ABUSED PUPPY BEING SOUGHT: Update 5/15/2023

Matilda is doing much better- responding to treatment and for now in a foster home with her new furry friend who watches over her.

SPCA says they think she will be out of the woods soon. So far $6000 has been raised for Matilda’s care.

No word yet on the ass who did this to her.

Original story below.

An 8-week old puppy was found abandoned and starving between Bangs and Myrtle Aves on Tuesday night. She was having a hard time breathing and lifting her head when the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals brought her to the SPCA. She was listed as in critical condition.

The puppy, named Matilda by SPCA staff, was found by a Neptune resident who called the SPCA because she was in such bad condition, he didn’t feel he could take care of her properly. As of Wednesday she had improved and was eating and interacting with the other animals.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Monmouth SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement Division at 732-440-1539. The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, and Neptune police are also investigating.

We didn’t post the full picture because it looked pretty disturbing. The person who did this needs to be brought to justice. Please share this info so they can find this &@$?!$&%.

ASBURY PARK CASINO BUILDING CLOSED: Courtesy of The Coaster:

The iconic Casino building, located at the southern end of the Asbury Park boardwalk, will be closed until further notice.
In a message message from Madison Marquette the company said. “After a scheduled inspection…we have made the difficult decision to close that pass through temporarily. At the moment, access between Asbury Park and Ocean Grove will be along the Wesley Lake promenade and the Wesley Lake bridge. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to the community and our visitors, and will be providing additional information shortly. “

First it was Convention Hall, Then it was the Paramount: the next iconic building to be shut down in Asbury Park because of neglect is The Casino, which today was fenced up and sealed to pedestrian traffic as the redeveloper says it is closed temporarily after an inspection determined the steel trusses were no longer stable due to the corrosive effects of salt air.

Madison Marquette and its local arm Madison Asbury Retail have been silent for years as to what they intend to do to save the iconic boardwalk structures. In fact, the redeveloper’s silence has led to outstanding default notices.

Recently, the redeveloper has approached Asbury Park officials about a proposal to bring a 3,500-seat amphitheater to the boardwalk and city officials have spoken with one mind: until some attention is paid toward rectifying the conditions of Convention Hall and the Paramount Theatre, we will not sign off on an amphitheater, officials said.

That was just a few weeks ago.

“It is what it is,” said Mayor John B. Moor who has been vocal in his concern and frustration about the fate of these buildings.

He also notes that he has been telling the redeveloper for years that “the open-air environment”- which is the phrase used by the redeveloper’s engineers Colliers of Holmdel – is the same issue that is destroying Convention Hall.

Although Moor is not a structural engineer, he has suggested that where the salt air and sat water is intruding into Convention Hall – mostly where copper panels were taken off – could be sealed with plywood.

“I’ve been harping about the open-air environment in Convention Hall for years,” Moor said. “Maybe this will open their eyes and they will make repairs (as well) in Convention Hall. Their own engineer put it in his report.

City officials learned of the inspection Friday and the redeveloper was going to fence off the Casino breeze-way that links the city with Ocean Grove over the weekend but were unable to get a contractor on site until today. The inspection was done in early May, which is another source of frustration for the mayor who agrees that Madison Marquette is doing the right thing by closing off the Casino in view of the potential for “life-threatening injuries.”

“Why do they wait until two weeks before the season to do these things,” Moor said. “If the company had done its inspections earlier in the Spring, repairs could have been undertaken by now.”

After a scheduled inspection, we have made the difficult decision to close that pass through temporarily, Madison Marquette said in a statement. “At the moment, access between Asbury Park and Ocean Grove will be along the Wesley Lake promenade and the Wesley Lake bridge. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to the community and our visitors, and will be providing additional information shortly. “

A telephone message left at the number attached to the release was not returned.

But Moor said the company is telling the city it intends to make repairs at The Casino.
