Heading to Linville Caverns this Memorial Day Weekend? ⛰️✨
We are so excited to welcome everyone for the holiday weekend! If you’re planning a trip to see us, we have some fantastic news, a few rainy-day insider tips, and a quick guide to making the most of your time in our beautiful corner of the mountains.
🎉 The Big News: Direct access to Linville Falls via the Blue Ridge Parkway (Milepost 316.4) is officially OPEN! This is a massive win for holiday travelers. You can easily pair a morning underground tour with us with an afternoon hike to the falls. (Note: The trails are open, though the Parkway visitor center and campground remain closed for now).
🌧️ RAIN IS IN THE FORECAST (And we love it!)
We are expecting some much needed mountain showers this weekend, making it the perfect time to head underground! Because of the weather, rainy days are our absolute busiest. Here is what you need to know:
⏱️ Tours & Tickets: Tickets must be purchased onsite. We operate on a first-come, first-served policy. Don’t worry about long waits, though—our tours leave frequently, typically departing every 10 minutes! However, if the clouds roll in, expect longer overall wait times at the gift shop. Arrive early in the day or plan to spend some time shopping with us while you wait.
💧 Get ready for “Cave Kisses”: All that rain outside means the mountain is actively filtering water down through the rock, so you’re very likely to get dripped on during your tour!
🧥What to Wear: Large umbrellas don’t fit well on the cave pathways, so umbrellas are not permitted inside. We highly recommend wearing a rain jacket instead!
🗺️ PERFECT “NEARBY” STOPS TO ROUND OUT YOUR DAY:
If you’re looking to explore the immediate area without driving too far north into the busier towns, check out these local gems just minutes from our entrance:
🍽️ The Famous Rockhouse—Located three miles north of our entrance, it’s the perfect, cozy hometown lunch spot to fuel up between adventures (and you can’t leave without a slice of their famous homemade pie!).
🏪 Linville Falls General Store—Located right across the road from the Rockhouse at the intersection of HWY 183 and 221 N. It’s a fantastic stop to grab snacks, drinks, and local goods as you travel between sights.
🥩 English Cattle Company— Planning a holiday weekend cookout? Stop by to stock up on premium, Farm-To-Table beef! They are open today (Friday) and Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM, making it the perfect spot to grab your grilling essentials.
Pack your rain gear, drive safely, and let’s kick off the summer season together! We can’t wait to show you the wonders inside the mountain!
